Life vs. “Life” A devil is what I have been called by former debating classmates. If believing that all women should have the right to abortion makes me a devil, so be it. Aborting an unwanted fetus can make a world’s difference to an ongoing life. Whether that ongoing life is successful, poor, unhealthy, happy, or sad; having an unplanned baby can disrupt a life already set in motion. A majority of the time a life set in motion cannot afford to be disrupted with a new-coming life. Many factors come with unplanned newborn babies such as financial burdens, finding babysitters, and not to mention the emotional and mental stress load. Legalizing and approving abortion will be key to safer procedures, will end the mix of religion and law, and will relieve many pregnant women conflicted with the price of a new life. Dangerously unsafe attempts of abortion are encountered with everyday. Some attempts of self induced abortion include the harm of sharp insertion of objects into the cervix, vagina, or direct force to the abdomen. Examples of sharp objects that would be inserted into a woman's cervix or vagina are things such as roughly broken bones of cooked chicken, a unwired coat hanger, or sharpened sticks. Direct force to the abdomen is self explanatory, but just to explain the extent of the unsafety in this situation attempters will most of the time withstand punches, kicks, belly flops, and even heavyweights tossed toward their baby bumps. I am mentioning just a few of many other weird tactics of abortion that all fall under unsafe procedures. Honestly, I do not know what these attempters think; do they think that if they poke or scratch the baby it will disappear and their worries are over? Fools. Although methods of such have a c... ... middle of paper ... ...e after all. I am no devil either. I am pro-choice. Works Cited Berry, Susan, Dr. "'Pro-Life' West Virginia Gov. “It is my conviction that taxpayer funds should not be used to pay for abortions or advocate or actively promote abortion either here or abroad,” Bush stated in his memorandum to reinstate the Mexico City Policy. However, the policy does not state that funds will be withheld if the US taxpayer’s money is used; it states that monies will be withheld if abortion services are offered at all, even if it is not US money. Douglas Johnson the legislative director for the National Right to Life Committee states, the “government will no longer..try to legalize abortion in countries in Latin America, Africa, and Muslim countries in which people are strongly opposed to abortion and believe in the protection of unborn children.” What Johnson fails to recognize is that in countries where abortion is legal women’s rights are being compromised. U.S. Representative Christopher H. Smith expresses his feelings in his article “A Congressional View: The Unborn Must be Protected” (Global Issues Electronic Journal) by stating, “Abortion is child abuse.” Smith also comments that when the policy was previously in effect it had no affect on the family planning money received by NGO’s. It may not have affected the money received but it did affect women who were denied the option of abortion services.

In 1973, in what has become a landmark ruling for women’s rights, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled in favor of a woman’s right to an abortion. Ever since, individual states have adopted, altered, and/or mutilated the edict to fit their agendas – Texas included. However, the decision made by the justices in Roe v. Wade didn’t set clear cut, inarguable demarcation lines, which has allowed the fiery debate to consume the nation. Rather than establishing a legal ruling of what life is, or is not, the Supreme Court has remained silent on the issue.
There is a common misconception that Planned Parenthood is a center for abortions, and that is it. The truth is, only three percent of Planned Parenthood’s services relate to abortions. Planned Parenthood receives $500 million in federal funding and it is illegal to spend any of that money on abortion services. In CNN ’s article, "Planned Parenthood, by the Numbers”, there are clear statistics about how Planned Parenthood manages the money they receive and how a majority of their work focuses on
In 1973, the supreme court passed a law called “Roe v. Wade case”. The law was passed to, “allow abortion on demand in the first trimester of a pregnancy.” (Robert H. lauer) The law has been under scrutiny by opponents of
“Back-alley abortions cause 68,000 of maternal deaths each year in the 33 countries where abortion is not legal or available, according to the World Health Organization” (abortion procon 1). Back-alley abortions are typically done not by a professional, but by anyone whom the idea comes to and dares to take action. The process stems with a coat hanger instead of legit medical supplies. Unfortunately, many women die during the process.
Abortion, defined as the intentional termination of a pregnancy, is one of the most highly debated liberties of all time. Approximately one to three million abortions are performed each year. Women receive abortions for reasons such as rape, teen pregnancy, and health concerns. Unfortunately, it is a liberty that some still wish to eradicate due to religious beliefs and misconceptions. Abortion should remain a legal option for women because illegal abortions result in far more fatalities, religion does not serve as grounds for a law, and most importantly, there is no conclusive evidence that a fetus is equal to a human being.

One of the most controversial issues in society today is abortion, and as of now, is morally acceptable because of Roe vs. Wade. However, when a study taken by Minnesota reveals that women who have had an abortion have 10 times the risk of committing suicide than women who have not had an abortion, it’s time to seriously think about whether or not abortion should be acknowledged as morally right. Considered by some to be a form of murder, anti-abortion laws should apply to all women in order to prevent any emotional mishaps of the abortion victim and to save the lives of the innocent human beings not yet born.

Population control comes in many forms: cancer, famine, A.I.D.S, genocide, war and natural disasters, but never has one been so celebrated and socially accepted before abortion. Abortion has been practiced for hundreds of years and medical technology has advanced accordingly; providing a safer and much more sanitary procedure for the women receiving the operation, but the result remains the same for the defenseless child. Abortion continues to be one of the most debated and country dividing topics this nation has seen. In the recent past, there has been steady movement towards the governmental restrictions of abortion. The Partial-Birth Abortion Ban Act of 2003 was one of the greatest victories in congress related to this topic. The ban restricts a certain form of abortion (partial-birth abortion) past 24 weeks from conception (United States Congress). Even though this is a positive step in the right and moral direction, the act needs to be revised. It needs to have the allotted time reduced from 24 weeks to 20 weeks based upon new medical research that fetuses can “feel pain” prior to 24 weeks. Abortion will never become completely illegal (that is just harsh reality), but the restrictions that govern abortions can be fine tuned to incorporate a smaller and more humane window for abortions.
Soon after Donald Trump became the President of the United States, he made the call to cut the federal funding for organizations that provide women with abortion services. Interestingly, the debate about whether or not abortions should be legal has been going on for numerous years and the argument has always been between a woman’s right to her own body and an unborn child’s right to live a life. As no conclusion has been reached, GOP initiatives have consistently been trying to get rid of funding for places such as Planned Parenthood in order to force them into a decision they do not want to make. And finally Donald Trump has laid down the law so to speak and has taken away the funding for preventive health care, birth control, pregnancy tests and many other services women’s
