With a Biology degree, many opportunities are opened up from many companies. Once I graduate from Iowa State and I am, unfortunately, declined admission to Veterinarian School, I would pursue a career in research in a laboratory setting. For me to accomplish this goal, I would have to complete courses that focus on genetics and are accompanied by a lab, such as Biology 211 and 211L. After four years and extensive course work, I would graduate with a degree in Microbiology and many opportunities in my field of study. After graduation, I will be pursuing a career in microbiology and will searching for jobs from a variety of companies. In the United States, there are many companies that hire a students with a degree in microbiology, from government programs (Department of Defense) or privately funded companies. With a job with one of the various companies, the average salary for a person in this field of study is around $66,200. Experiments are time demanding and require intense focus to prevent mistakes, requiring a majority of a person in the microbiology field’s time. A main aspect that I would be interested in focusing on is cancer. On a daily basis, I would study the way a specific type of cancer acts, comes to be, function, and possible ways in which the slow or stop the cancer from progressing. After many hours of studying and a solution in mind, I would begin a long series of experiments to test my hypothesis. Whether my hypothesis was proven correct or incorrect, I would either begin my study again to find a different solution, or I would do further testing to create indisputable evidence that my hypothesis was correct and not any other intervening factors. After many years of doing research, I may take the advantage of furthering my education and possibly bring my knowledge back to the
