I am becoming a teacher because I knew I can make a difference in lives of my students. I wanted to be a positive influence in their life in both the classroom and in the real world. I will be there to support them academically, in their extra -curricular activities, and in the social world of school. I want to teach to make an impact and open up their eyes to all the possibilities that are out there. I will develop a curriculum around the student’s interests. The curriculum will foster intrinsic motivation and stimulate the passion to learn. One way I plan to do this is to; take learning in a direction relevant to student interest by inviting student dialogue about the lessons and units of study. Given the opportunity for input, students generate ideas and set goals that make for a much richer activity than I could have alone created or imagined myself. Discipline through self-control, rules, routines, and procedures are a foundation that will lead to high student achievement in my classroom. Setting positive expectations and treating students with respect will give students the opportunity to feel empowered to make decisions on their own. The positive expectations set in the classroom provide the foundation for each student to obtain high achievement levels throughout the entire school year. Educators must be able to work with a learner to identify interests and then set out learning goals. Content must be relevant to the learner, integrated across subject domains and reflect real-world issues, must facilitate acquisition of skills and knowledge, must build metacognitive and technological capacity, nurture independence, and promote collaboration (Saavedra & Opfer, 2012).
The overall goal is to challenge students; but give them the freedom that allows for expression and creativity, through experimentation in order to discover their likes and dislikes, and to come to their own self-realization of their strengths and weaknesses, as well as what works for them. Once this is discovered, I can successfully mold a curriculum that is in connection with each student’s approach towards achieving their fullest potential as well-educated individuals.
It’s funny how quickly time flies by it seems like just yesterday I was complaining about writing the first part of this assignment. Looking back at it now, the reasons why I want to become a teacher remain the same. I want to inspire, shape, encourage, and mentor my students. I want to make the kind of impact on each and every single one of them that they will carry on for the rest of their lives. Whether it be simply believing in them, and telling them that I know they are capable of accomplishing anything they want to, or helping them through a tough time. My desire to become a teacher has increased tremendously the past 16 weeks, and I am so eager and excited to finish my education to begin my teaching career.
Student discipline is affected by classroom management. The way in which a teacher manages his/her classroom delineates the type of instruction that will take place in the classroom. A classroom in which the teacher takes total responsibility for guiding students’ actions comprises a different learning environment than one in which students are encouraged to take responsibility for their own actions (Evertson, 2003). Many schools are reluctant to hold students accountable for their own actions. The education establishment warns teachers that they will be placing themselves in a questionable role if they emphasize rules, punish bad behavior, and reward good conduct (Bennett, et. al., 1999). Teachers need to create a learning environment in which students are encouraged to do their best and therefore, motivated to work to their highest potential. Teachers need to also set expectations and maintain the learning environment they have developed. Even in effectively managed classrooms, however, problems may occur.
I then will look at my ending goal. I want to know where I want and need my students to be at the end of my lesson. I will also take into consideration where my students stand with prior knowledge to the subject I will be teaching. I also think it is important for myself to know the content well in order to teach it to my students, most effectively. Lastly what objective and goals I need to put into place in order to assure my students meet what I want them to achieve through this
Now that I have told you what has led me to this decision I would like to tell you exactly why I have chosen to become a teacher. I want to become a teacher not because of the salary nor because I want weekends and holidays off; rather, I want to become a teacher because I truly have a passion for making a difference in others lives. I feel that teaching is perhaps one of the most fulfilling roles in life. Becoming a teacher to me means helping to shape another person by teaching and instructing them.
Being a teacher is a noble cause, though it also seems to be the dream of idiots and morons. It is a job where you work constantly and are always told what to teach. You are expected to teach to a standardized test. It is a job path that only the bravest take. The people who claim that those who can’t do teach, know nothing about teaching or how hard it is to teach. Especially high school students who have no desire to learn. Children in their last required chapter in their education. Their young pubescent minds focused more on the opposite sex over their grades. How do you teach such a difficult age group? How do you keep them engaged? Especially with a subject that so many find boring and tedious, English and English literature.
Discipline is intended to cease misbehavior in the classroom. Effective classroom management procedures contribute to an environment that enhance learning and reduce discipline problems (Edwards, 2004). The goal of discipline is to help students learn to control their own behavior. Effective teachers apply various disciplinary techniques that help in curtailing misbehavior and promote self-discipline in students (Charles, 1996). Effective discipline is emotionally disconnected from student actions (Henley, Ramsey and Algozzine, 1999). According to Dreikurs, discipline is a process in which students learn to impose reasonable limits on themselves (Charles, 1996).

In many cases, it has become very complex to keep students interested in their education. So the teacher must be creative and find ways to keep pushing the student onward as well as upward. In order to devise the ultimate plan for educating students, a teacher must acknowledge that the “students” are what teaching is all about. The most important factor in the equation is unequivocally the STUDENT! All humans are different in some sort or fashion. But the fact still exists that we all have only this place to function in. So help by putting forth an effort to make it a better place for us all.
As we reminisce and reflect back either on our childhood or academic career, we tend to have that one teacher who was memorable to us in some way - for their sense of humor, their stellar personality, or perhaps having that charisma and charm no other teacher had to make a difficult subject and it 's concepts fun to learn. While knowledge is power, I firmly believe that it is rather the exchange and distribution of knowledge that is power. When one can educate the masses there is no doubt that together we can accomplish great things. Becoming a teacher would mean the opportunity to be able to witness the shaping and molding of the minds of the future generations and the satisfaction knowing that you have helped your students set themselves onto the right path and provide guidance towards the creation of a better tomorrow. Choosing to become a teacher will allow me not only to educate my students, but also educate myself to be a better teacher throughout my career. My basic principle is preparing my students to face different challenges in life, particularly if they choose to contribute to lead the community where they live. For various reasons, students take my class. Often, the course is required for their major or for a job application, e.g. for those who are future high school teachers. Others take it because they are interested in some topics, e.g. students interested in world politics enroll in international relations course. Regardless of their motivation, my objective is to ensure that students acquire knowledge and set of skills that prepare them to face various challenges in their occupation.
There have been many factors that have inspired me to this career choice. Watching my teachers, both past and present, has inspired me to become a teacher. I have a genuine interest in lifelong learning and as such I have the desire to not only instil knowledge and values to others, but also encourage them to share my passion for learning. Social Justice and leadership roles at school, along with my extra-curricular involvement with Cowra Youth Council, have highlighted my ability to work with and for the benefit of young people. In essence I know that my abilities and aspirations will make me a good teacher.
Students need to be inspired to think critically. By this they comprehend what has been learned and be able to use it. I hope my students will be able to achieve their greatest potential that they can accomplish anything they set their minds to. We can give our children these building blocks thru education to use in decision making situations, moral value of their thoughts and actions. This will guide them to realize how their actions and decisions will affect themselves and others.
Teaching has always been a dream of mine ever since I was a little girl. I have had multiple teachers who have impacted my life in many ways, but the one teacher who has inspired me to pursue a career in the education field as a teacher would be my math teacher that I have this year. She inspires me every day and is truly my role model. I look up to her on a daily basis, and I aspire to become a teacher because of her and how she has changed my life for the better have always appreciated the hard work that teachers do on a daily basis, and I always have appreciated the fact that they take time out of their day to teach their students valuable skills that the students may utilize in the future. I aspire to become a teacher in the future and hopefully make a difference in students’ lives. Teachers are more than just people who educate students, they are people who continue to make a difference in my life and teach me the value of hard work every day. I know that I really want to pursue a career in the education field as a teacher because I want to help people and share my love of learning with my future students. I also want to become a teacher because I would like to give back to the amazing teachers that I have this year and take what they have taught me and instill that in my future classroom. I realize that teaching is a lot of hard work, but I am willing to give one hundred percent effort on a daily basis so that students can receive a great education that they deserve.
