Have you ever thought about what led you to the career you’re working in right now or even studying at this very moment? Was it a person, a certain event in your life, or even a school assignment that made you have an interest in the job? In my case, unpleasant events in my life made me open my eyes to pursue a nursing career after graduating from high school. It all began a couple years ago with my mother. My mother, similar to all the mothers out there, took care of her children, them being my brother and I in this situation. She cooked for us, cleaned after our messes, cared for us, and to sum it up she did everything she could for us. Until one day, she began to feel sick. She felt weak, dizzy, nauseas, and many more horrible symptoms. My family and I took her to the doctor and the doctor explained to us that she appeared to have problems with her cholesterol and her blood pressure. My mother’s “good” cholesterol seemed to be too low, while her “bad” cholesterol was too high. Her blood pressure was very low as well. From that day on, many things changed. My mother was not as living as she was before. Most of the time I saw her in pain, and we kept going back and forth to the doctors office. At first I remembered them as just regular people doing their job. And like any other job, receive an amount of money for their work. But after looking closer into this career I noticed that the career is rewarding. And I’m not talking about their salaries. It’s rewarding because they helped a person through hard times. I can imagine the great feeling they have after seeing a person, whom they helped, leave their workplace with a better look on their face. Not only physically either but emotionally as well.
