When I hear the word college, I automatically think of books, education, and learning. When I reflect on the reasons why I go to college, the first thing that comes to mind is my mother. The more I think about it, the more I realize the reason why I attend college is to not only learn, but create a path to where I want to head in life. I attend college to seek the best path ahead and work hard in order to give back to the most ambitious woman I know, my mother. When I was little, mother always told me, “Take on the chances that I never had and make me proud.” I want to start by attending college in order to show my mother that I will continue with the education she was not able to have. Because my mother is always my focus; I go to college to show her that I want to give back to her all these years and time she spent on me. She did not give up on me, nor did she give up on herself. I want to be exposed to new ideas and inspire others around to do the same. I attend college to not only learn in between the books, but to grow and expand mentally. Just within the first two weeks into college, not only am I taught what a sentence is, but also ways to analyze in an English class. Just the other day, I was assigned an essay to read. Not one student analyzed it the way the professor did. He gave me a new outlook on things, moreover to look at things differently and not like how everyone else would. I want to go to college for the wholesome intellectual stimulation and to get more involved with my community. College will be my last opportunity to do so before I enter the work force. At college I can be intellectually and academically challenged; I will be able to learn with friends who are as dedicated to learning and the pursuit of knowledge as I am. My goals in college are to acquire the skills that I need to lead a successful and productive life, to expand my knowledge of the world, to step out of my comfort zone, and to become more proactive.
Noted authors, Brandon Chambers, is quoted saying, “If you are going to fear anything fear success. Think about what you are doing and when you succeed what life you will have.” There are several different reasons why I could stay home, work and not go to college; I could go to work every day and make more money for the house, it’s easier, and I would be less stressed. Now, on the other hand there are many reasons why I should go to school; such as further my education, make my family proud, and make myself proud. I am attending college for several different reasons. One reason is to further my education. I hate feeling like I don’t know something, I like being the person everyone comes to for information. Also, because I want to be better prepared for my major, I want to be better then the next person with the job credentials. I want to major in Social Work and Criminology. I dream to be a counselor or an clinical service social worker. I want to help people who need someone there for them someone who can guide them or even just talk too. Another reason is because I would be the first in I would be the first in my family to go to college. I feel in some type of way I am setting an example for my parents and my brother that they too can go back to school. Lastly is simply because I love school. I love knowing more and more each day. College is not for everyone, but I will be successful by grasping the benefits, preparing for the problems, taking heed from experts, and working on strategies to be successful.
Most people today think of college as simply a place to get a better education, or merely as a steppingstone to financial success. College is far more than that. College is an experience that shapes a person, which can have both positive and negative outcomes. It is all up to the students to make the college experience worth their time and effort. Students must realize the importance of the responsibilities now demanded of them by higher education.
The only person in my family that went to college after high school was my grandmother. I do not want to be just another family member to not go to college; I do not want to give up my dreams, because I do not have the education for them. The outcome of a higher education will bring the success you were seeking, find your interests, navigate you to diverse opportunities, and even improve your critical thinking on daily routines. College teaches you all the rudimentary skills such as problem solving, communication, critical thinking, or even self- motivation. Knowing these skills properly, you’ll have a quicker reaction on how to deal with unexpected situation. My purpose and goals in attending college is to make something of my life. It is a good thing. No one wants to be a nobody. Lastly, student should go to college because it sets a good example to their children and kids and they can start a tradition. According to American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, children look up to many role models but their parent and caregiver are the most important one. If they see that their parents are successful college graduates with higher degrees, they will most likely want to attend college as well. It is up to the parent to set a good example to their children.
II first attended Academy of Art, knowing full well that A's were not given out likely, yet never considered not graduating. During my first year at the Academy of Art, I received financial help from my Mother. The Summer of 2012 is when I began working. I was unable to pay rent or bills, unless I worked thirty hours or more a week. I take full responsibility in letting my grades suffer under these conditions. I find working six to eight hours a day four to five days a week, and attending class and doing homework, extremely difficult. I piled too much on my plate at once. People have told me time and time again that college is a necessity if one wishes to succeed. However, I never took the time to ask myself why I wanted to go to college until recently. After a lengthy time of pondering the reason why I wanted to go to college I finally came to a conclusion. I realized that internships, connections, and lifelong friends are few of the numerous reasons why I wish to go to college, specifically George Mason.
It is important to further my education because knowledge is one element in life that leads to the highest success.
Throughout my twelve years of school I have realized something. That out of all the classes I have took, I have only truly enjoyed a small amount of those classes. Most classes don’t catch my attention very well or the content is dull and unexciting. That is why I’m looking forward to attending college, so I can find and take classes that actually interest me.
College is going to start my own life on a foot that is ready to leap because my career is going to take off right out of the gate. All-in-all I’m going to college for three main reasons. My immediate family is a reason because I want them to be proud of me for doing something right for once. My future family is also one because it’s a big part of my life that I want to be happy and always feel comfortable. Finally for my personal financial well-being, so I can be able to treat myself to all the luxuries I want for myself. Going back to line one, all of these things are a part of my future.
