Wherefore art thou Romeo? Dead. And so is Juliet. They decided to commit suicide because of the nature of their relationship. The same is true for teens today. According to Mental Help, the leading cause of death for today’s teens is suicide. Dating as a teen is detrimental due to teens not being emotionally or socially sane, which can cause dramatic or devastating endings.
To begin, dating as a teen can invite problems such as depression and other problems. In Romeo and Juliet, at the very beginning Romeo is depressed. He was upset because Rosaline didn’t want to date him or anyone in that matter. As soon as Romeo was told that , he became depressed. He would shut himself in his room and draw all the curtains and even would go down to a

In the Science News for Students,it explains how the brain is on a constant run for a chemical dopamine. Dopamine is released when one does something good, and the brain and body find that chemical to be extremely addictive. The article explains,“the adolescent brain is locked in a tug-of-war between the logical pull of the prefrontal cortex and the impulsive pull of the ventral striatum. Although teens can make good decisions, in the heat of the moment- even when they know better, the reward system can out muscle the master planner. That can lead to poor decisions” (Mascarelli). The reward system can out muscle the master planner, so when teens are in a relationship, they are trying to please the other partner which can lead to impulsive decisions… just like in Romeo and Juliet. This quote is just after Juliet found Romeo in the Capulet tomb,“Yea, noise? Then I’ll be brief. O’happy dagger, This is thy sheath. There rust and let me die”(Shakespeare). This is one of the last scenes in Romeo and Juliet. She, after seeing Romeo dead because of an impulsive decision, makes another impulsive decision. She kills herself. She could have gone to the nunnery where she could have lived out her life, but no. She made an impulsive decision, just like most teens, whether it would be suicide, drugs, or even to defy their parents. The teen makes impulsive decisions, and due to their brain not being fully …show more content…
As stated, the top reason for teen death is suicide. Say a relationship goes south, the brain automatically will try and isolate itself in order to grieve. Then heavier emotions will come upon to that said person and they will feel if they have one option, an impulsive option. In Science News for Students, they talk about how it is a necessary mark in life and many believe that it is what a teen needs. The article states,“experts believe that this tendency marks a necessary phase in teen development”(Mascarelli). At what cost? The cost of a teen’s happiness? Their life? Their future? Their happiness? There has to be a firm line at where teens can be happy and be in danger. Dating as a teen can cause that. Many saw it in Romeo and Juliet, and many young adults see it today. The next source is a very compelling piece towards this theory. The prince is announcing the death of the two heirs to their rivaling families and says, “A glooming peace this morning with it brings”(Shakespeare). The Prince said that as he was making the announcement to the rest of Verona; that the young adults of the Capulet and Montague families are dead. That happens today. A police might find a teen at a party overdosed because their boyfriend/ girlfriend is addicted to drugs and they just wanted to feel good. But at what cost? To conclude, teenagers shouldn’t have partner relationships because of the risks and how it has all played out
Teen suicide can result from a number of scenarios. When you hear of teens who commit suicide, a lot of people would think it's due to the most common cases which are unhappiness or depression. But in fact, there are different factors to what causes suicide. For an example, as stated in the article Teen Suicide from Kids Health, teens attempt suicide for multiple reasons. These reasons revolve around psychological problems such as anxiety, bipolar disorders, or drug abuse or even dealing with bisexuality or homosexuality in an unsupportive family or hostile school environment. The individuals who usually face th...
Based off of the statistics, the rate of teenage suicide has been rising since the 1500s. Many teenagers out in there are killing themselves over small things, and dating is one of them. People will say things such as, "Oh, they killed them self because of a stupid relationship." Well, yes, there are some teenagers who have done that. But, that gives people no right to be calling them stupid, or immature. Suicide is a big deal and it's something that cannot be ignored. Romeo and Juliet killed them self because they knew they couldn't handle being without the other, and teenagers today think like that, too. This is something I know very well.
Romeo and Juliet Essay Every action we take, decision we make, and person we fall in love with always leads us to our inevitable destiny. Some people are meant to live happily ever after, while others may not be so lucky. Romeo and Juliet ended up being one of those not-so-lucky couples. Born as enemies, their love ended up pulling them closer to their destiny, which was proven to be death.
It is often believed that fate plays a role in the end result of peoples’ lives, however, in this tale of star-crossed lovers, fate is not the case. Three characters are to blame for the deaths of Romeo and Juliet in William Shakespeare’s play Romeo and Juliet. They are Friar Lawrence, Lord Capulet and Romeo. Friar Lawrence is the first character responsible for the deaths of the two young lovers because of his immoral actions. Romeo Montague constantly acts too hastily which never works in his favour or any of the other characters. Lord Capulet brings about the deaths of Romeo and Juliet because he doesn’t stay true to his promises. Friar Lawrence, Lord Capulet, and Romeo Montague all have character faults that majorly contribute to the catastrophe in the play.
During adolescence the body and brain is still developing. Since Juliet was thirteen and Romeo was seventeen. They were still developing into adults. In the website tittled Young Adult Development Project it states “ adolescence changes brain and thinking structures”. This proves their thought process was not clear and not quite mature. Furthermore it also says “ The Prefrontal Cortex problem solving in development” . This explains that their problem was not solved with logical and wise decision. It is This could have been avoided if they were
In “Romeo and Juliet by: William Shakespeare” we know that they commit suicide in the end for love and we probably don’t think about it much, but in real life things like that happen. Many teens commit suicide by medicine or drugs which is shown when Romeo thinks Juliet’s dead and drinks the poison. One issue that is proven in “Romeo and Juliet by: William Shakespeare” is that alot of teens today face certain things like depression which cause Teen Suicide.
Who is the most to blame for the deaths of Romeo and Juliet? There are many opinions on who is to blame for the deaths of these "star crossed lovers." One of these opinions is that both Romeo and Juliet are equally to blame for their own deaths. Romeo nor Juliet knew how to resolve their own problems and went directly to Friar Lawrence. Whenever Romeo and Juliet failed to resolve their problem, their resolution was suicide. Romeo and Juliet also withheld the love affair between them, from their families.
For example Juliet wanting to immediately kill herself after her husband was banished from Verona, it is not a proud moment but I admit I would do the same if I never was able to see or contact my best friends again. Also I may not be able to relate to Romeo’s “I’ve known her for about three hours, only two of them I knew her name, I’m going to marry her” thing but I can relate to him blurting out his love confession for no reason due to his emotions because as a teen it’s basically shocking to claim that someone hasn’t had an emotional word vomit and emotions moment. I can not say much for my peers but I do understand that I am an impulsive, pleasure seeking, mess who never sleeps and always wants to eat and honestly it truly is relaxing to understand why. Writing this essay I wanted to do something spontaneous and extra that would put me above others so I planed to write in “You are a Saucy boy,” somewhere or use “elasticity” or even go above and beyond and mention “Synaptic Pruning” but those plans fell through. So basically teens should only be held accountable for certain things, like heedlessly second hand killing four people, but not things like being a little impulsive, or sleeping late, or being a little reckless. Romeo and Juliet should face the consequences of their actions, the prefrontal cortex is reckless and impulsive during
In conclusion, in the play Romeo and Juliet both Romeo and Juliet make decisions that, because of their adolescents are quick and are not thought through which really affects their lives and those of the people close to them. In this day and age you see people who are making bad decisions, for example the use of drugs and underage drinking. The decision to do these things is most of the time done by people who are adolescents. These people dont think about the real consequences that it could have later in their live or event the damage that it does to their bodies right now. These people do it without
Suicide is the second leading cause of death in teens. Most teens commit suicide mainly because of bullying which pushes teens over the edge; because they believe what their peers say about them. Studies show that more teens are dying in this generation than any other generation due to suicide. Bullying is the biggest cause of teen suicide because it pushes people to believe that it is the only way out, makes people feel worthless, and causes the most mental problems in teens.
Young love is a very deep immature feeling, which tends to misguide those affected by it, and the affected ones fall too deeply in love, which leads to a tendency of self-destruction. The concept of the young misguiding love is emphasized in the drama, Romeo and Juliet, by William Shakespeare. Romeo and Juliet are young when they first see each other and make the mistake of loving each other without knowing their family names. Their deep love without any understanding of the concept of love leads to the young lovers committing suicide, which is a rash decision. They do not embrace their situation, and think about other solutions other than suicide. Romeo and Juliet act on impulse and make rash decisions without thinking about the consequences, which results in self-destruction, because of the burden and the extremity of love.
Simon Virk Ms. Tsang ENG201-08 02/17/16 Unnecessary Suicide The tragedy of Romeo and Juliet, published in 1597 by William Shakespeare, is a suspenseful and romantic story about two lovers whose love cannot part them from their feuding families. Although they were responsible for killing themselves, there are certain individuals who influenced them to commit suicide. Those who are most responsible for the unfortunate deaths of Romeo and Juliet include Friar Lawrence, for his selfish desire to be a hero, Capulet, for imposing an ultimatum and his disconnection from his daughter, and the Nurse, for her irresponsibility and betrayal to Juliet. Friar Lawrence’s unwise and poorly crafted plans led to the lover’s death.
There are multiple negative effects of teen suicide. Large numbers of teens that do not have support from friends, peer groups, family, or religious association may and can feel isolated from the world and disconnected. (Larry’s). The tragedy of a young person dying as a result of overwhelming hopelessness is devastating to everyone. Suicide rates differ between boys and girls. Girls think about and attempt suicide about twice as often as boys, and attempt suicide by overdosing. Boys die by suicide about four times as often as girls, due to using more lethal methods, such as firearms, hanging, or jumping from heights. (Nock). There are several different factors that may lead a teenager to take their life, but the most common is depression. Feelings of hopelessness and anxiety, along with feelings of being trapped in a life that one cannot handle, are contributors to teen suicide. It is important to be on the lookout for signs that your teen may attempt suicide. Some of the warning signs are similar to normal adolescent behavior. At times, preventing teen suicide means treating teen depression. Since 75 percent of the people who commit suicide are depressed (according to the University of Texas), it is a beneficial start to begin treating the symptoms of teen depression. (Teen Suicide Overview).
Everyone is to blame for the tragedy of Romeo and Juliet. Romeo, Juliet, Friar Laurence, and Romeo and Juliet’s parents all played their own role in causing the four deaths of Romeo, Juliet, Tybalt, and Paris. It is not just one of them to blame, every one of them did something to cause the tragedy. Some of them played a bigger role than others, but everyone contributed. Fate had nothing to do with it and it was all the different characters faults. Romeo, Juliet, and Friar Lawrence’s rash decisions where the main cause of the tragedy.
William Shakespeare treats death in Romeo and Juliet different for each set of characters. Some character deaths was because a familial issue, other were for legal issues. Romeo and Juliet's death was a familial issue, Mercutio’s death was a personal issue and Tybalt's death was a legal issue.
