People want the freedom to make choices in their own life, but this freedom creates a paradox of sorts because as people want the freedom to make their own life choices, they are expected to make their decisions for the good of more than just themselves, or they shall have to take the consequences. This causes there to be a value and a challenge to personal independence. There is a certain value in personal independence. People are certainly happier when they get to make their own decisions. People that get to make their own decisions also tend to benefit themselves. If you benefit yourself then advancements can be made for people. A lot of advancements are made because people want to benefit themselves but by doing so they actually benefit
