Although athletes may think that they make the ideal amount of money for their job, there are many children famished or ailing in many locations around the world. While athletes are earning millions of dollars a year, families are being emaciated in Africa and even the United States. Most importantly, athletes are living luxury lives, while many people in Asia and Africa are ravenous. Athletes work extremely hard to win each and every game they play, but they do not work as hard as the community around them, therefore, athletes should not make as much cash as they do today. In addition, athletes should not get paid as much as they do right now because most of the time athletes blow their money immediately, and are left with nothing. Athletes
There are many ways for athletes pay for success. First way, athletes should pay financial costs for their success. The first thing that athletes should have to pay for it is sports equipment and if they want to improve their skill for success, they should have to pay to hire a good coach to help them practice. Second way, athletes should pay emotional costs for their success. Their playing a sport for success, it probably will make them not have time for their friends, Family or anyone they love. It also can cause them get a stress from training or losing. Last way, athletes should pay physical costs for their success. It probably will make them have been hurt by their practice or their competition and it will make them have not enough time
Isn't it amazing how one little controversial question can cause so much drama? Take the NCAA for instance. Within recent years the question of weather NCAA athletes should be paid or not has arisen and caused them some unwanted attention. Many coaches and sports enthusiast have been interviewed on their opinion. “Students are not professional athletes who are paid salaries and incentives for a career in sports. They are students receiving access to a college education through their participation in sports, for which they earn scholarships to pay tuition, fees, room and board, and other allowable expenses,” (Mitchell). “There has been major discussion recently if college athletes should or shouldn't be paid while they are in school. The first thing opponents say is, "They're already getting a scholarship! That is more than anybody else! Don't be greedy!”(Hartnett). These are just two men’s opinions, but no one needs to give his or her opinion any longer. The answer to this question is unmistakably clear. NCAA athletes do not need to be paid because they get to go to college for free, their living expenses are paid for, and there would not be a fair way to choose which teams are paid and which are not.
Due to the extensive training and serious commitment that is associated with college sports, many athletes end their athletic journey in high school. However, from each high school, there is a handful of athletes who decide to attend a NCAA Division I college. Founded in 1910, the National Collegiate Athletic Association is a non profit organization that regulates and aids thousands of student-athletes across the United States, providing them with opportunities at a collegiate level. This organization operates under a three-division system, setting separate rules for Division I, Division II, and Division III colleges. For example, under the NCAA, Division I and II schools are allowed to offer athletic scholarships
job”.If the athletes were paid for the talents that they possess while in school, they might be more willing to
ESPN college basketball analyst and former Duke basketball player Jay Bilas once said, “For what reason do we limit athletes, and athletes only, in this multibillion-dollar business?”. The reason for his strong opinion is because there has been an ongoing discussion on whether or not college athletes should receive compensation for the sports that they play. The NCAA’s justification for why student athletes aren’t paid is that they believe that the real compensation is benefitting from academics and being able to receive major professional sports contracts for their efforts. “Rather than push college athletics further and further from academics, we need to bring it closer.”, said NCAA president Mike Emmert, who backs up the explanation set up by the NCAA. While many still consider college
Introduction: There are several reasons as to why college athletes should get paid. They deserve to get paid for all the entertainment and the publicity they provide for their university and the rest of the country.
Only 2% of all college athletes make it to the professional level. That is 2% of 460,000 athletes. That means 450,800 of those athletes stop after college, and move on. After all the hard work they put in, it's over. The 40 hours of training per week for years, it's over. And yet the don´t get paid. Why is this? Why do they even play anyway? They play for the love of the game. If we started paying them, they wouldn´t play from love, they would pay from greed. And, how do colleges spend money? Fair pay, and Title IX make it harder than it looks to start paying these athletes. Let the athletes play for love, not greed.
Another reason that college athletes should not be paid is because they are, under NCAA rules, to be considered amateurs. In the National Collegiate Athletic Association Rules it states, “College athletes are not to be paid, not to cash in on their prominence, never to cross any kind of line of professionalism.” Steve Wieberg, of the USA Today, studied the rules that the NCAA has placed on paying college athletes. He concludes that, “Athletic programs are meant to be an integral part of the educational program” (Weinberg). The reoccurring theme here should be obvious now —education is the most important part of the student’s time in college and being an athlete should come second.
The main reason athletes should be paid is because the NCAA and the college make money off of them. The coach’s salary amount is based on how the students do in their specific sport. There are coaches in college being paid millions of dollars based off of how well the athletic program performs. While they sit back and just scream at athletes to do this and that, athletes are the ones who are suffering. Athlete’s put their body at risk every day for their coaches and their teammates. The worst part about being an athlete is that when they do not perform well coaches
We pay a lot and maybe even too much to watch people play a sports. This adds up quickly and because they’re in the pay roll they’re getting a lot of this money. Split evenly every player is getting thousands of dollars Also another reason is because we look so highly at them, if we didn’t give them as much attention as we do they wouldn’t get this much money, these big companies like Nike, Reebok, and Adidas wouldn’t be giving them millions and millions of dollars to their company. A lot of their extremely high salaries are because of
Compensation Beyond Scholarships When it comes to college athletics, the controversy lies in this question, “Should student athletes be paid?” People are either for college athletes getting paid or they are against the idea. With the growing popularity of college athletics, many questions have been raised about player compensation. How fair it is to pay players and how to pay players who operate at different skill levels.
Imagine someone that is amazing at a certain sport like basketball. He is incredible at basketball but is not excelling in school. No good college will take him and his dreams of playing a professional sport is over, what then? in high school you are required to have good grades to play sport, so if you want to play sports you must excel in both sports and academics. Also, when we had middle school sports you needed to have good grades.
How would you like to be paid 6.4 million just to play a game of college basketball? It is worth considering that college basketball players don’t get paid at all for working in games even at practice. Athletes should get paid for playing because they need to support their families, stay in school longer, and they will even play differently, students need to be able to support their families, secondly they would need to donate money to the program if they want to keep it going. While Basketball and Football tend to bring the most revenue, other programs tend to make money while some don’t at all. The NCAA has a regulation that is intended that they should limit training to 20 hours per week.
Athletes are basically just entertainment. They don’t do much; all they really do is just run around on fields or courts and toss a ball around. People crowd stadiums and pay loads of money to see professional athletes play a game. They spend years of their life traveling and competing in games. Athletes make
To begin, while firefighters and cops put their life on the line, athletes do as well. Some football players can barely move after their careers have ended. Broken ankles, shattered ribs, and twisted wrists; all things that could end athlete’s career forever. Also, if athletes were not paid so much the nurses that care for them wouldn’t get paid at all. Most of the time, athletes can’t
