After reading “College Isn’t For Everyone”, I pondered various thoughts. Some of which agree with the author. However, others may disagree with the options stated by the author. For example, I do believe that not all high school students need to attend college. Plenty of options are available such as a trade school or the military. However, I do agree that thinking about college is important. Even if not an opinion that agrees with someone, one should consider all options before making a final choice. While reading “College Isn’t for Everyone”, some important points can be made. In the beginning, Reeves discusses how culture makes college seem so vital. Later, he provides some statistics about people attending college. For example, he says that about fifteen million people are enrolled in college although many should not be. Throughout my high school, Wilson High School, various events and activities occur to encourage college. For example, in my AP English Language and Literature class, we were required to pick one of the college essays and write one for a grade. This shows how the school encouraged and along with made it easier for students to apply for college. Another example includes, having field trips to college fairs. This encourages students to go to college because it is the “right thing” to do. Also, if all of a student’s friends are going, it makes students want to come along. To add to that, even as young as elementary schoolers are asked what they want do when they grow up and want college they want to go to. To add to this, college is is pushed on students as young as elementary school. When a child is that young, they are asked what the want to be when they grow up and what college they want to go to. To conclude, college is not only encouraged, but pushed on most high school
