1.Discuss your reasons for pursuing the Major/Academic Program selected above?
My personality and personal experiences have helped me to decide upon accounting as my chosen major. Before I immigrated to the United States in 2010, I had a small business in China for more than nine years. This experience and my desire to be an entrepreneur taught me the importance of accounting. In order to manage my business well, I attended a course in basic accounting at a local training institute. While in training, I learned that I loved working with numbers and applying financial analysis to economic issues. I have a passion for finance, economic issues, accounting principles, and the world of business and this has guided me to pursue an accounting major.

I cannot recall how many of these I have gone through in my life, but I can recall one which happened two years ago that taught me the value of helping others and remaining positive. When my daughter was about two years old, she caught a stomach virus from her preschool; and not long after, my husband fell ill and had to be taken to the hospital by ambulance. After a week in the hospital, the doctors still could not figure out what was wrong with my husband. I was faced with the stress of caring for my daughter, worrying about my husband, and managing school work. We hired a sitter who was unable to come to the house every day, and I soon felt I was on the edge of a nervous breakdown. I had to remind myself several times each day that I could overcome this situation. I reminded myself that I was strong but still, I wished with all my heart that someone would come to help. My own family was half a world away, and my husband’s family lived far from us as well. One day, our neighbor Linda came over and offered to help. I could not find the words to express how much I appreciated her help, and I will never forget her …show more content…
If your education was or will be interrupted, indicate the reason for the interruption and provide details.
I truly do not believe anything can interrupt me from pursing my dream of getting a degree. This has been my dream for many years, and it is an opportunity I treasure with all my heart. Before immigrating to the United States, I believed my dreams of a university degree would never come true because of my country’s educational system, my family’s cultural beliefs, and financial limitations. I come from a traditional Chinese family whose beliefs of girls attaining higher education is beyond the norm. Boys are considered the family treasure and, therefore, are the ones who are supported in their dreams of higher education.
During my studies at Wake Tech Community College, I was thrilled at the classes that I was able to take and am enjoying the knowledge I have acquired and how it has opened my mind. I often reflect upon how privileged I am as a new immigrant that, at my age, I can sit in the same classroom with other students who are much younger than me enjoying the same knowledge. I truly appreciate this country and its wonderful educational system and feel nothing can stop
Nonetheless, it was neither the geographic disparities nor the tremendous cultural differences that obstruct the dream I had in mind. It all began when my parents’ disagreements accumulated. The language barrier barricaded my father’s will to stay. After countless quarrels, he terminated the marriage and fled back to Vietnam. As the adults drifted apart, the burden on my mother’s shoulders doubled. Left by our own, we struggled to make ends meet. Going to a four-year university, therefore, was no longer our option, especially when my sister and I were both entering college at the same time. So, despite my mom’s weak stamina, she toiled away working a straight 50 hours a week to put food on the table. Her limited English skills couldn’t get her a better job rather than being a minimum wage factory worker. My sister and I were exerting ourselves to our best capability at school in hopes to at least make her feel better, and to be told that we wouldn’t make it to graduate the year of. For a second, my family felt apart and all of my confidence collapsed; for a second, I thought this was the last call for me, that I would never be able to succeed or get anything done with my life: I felt helpless. As times like this, I was fortunate enough to have my siblings to share this feeling. It’s been a year and a half and my life has gotten a lot better. After changing accommodation, and switching to another high school, my sister and I were finally be able to graduate on time. We have been working on campus since Summer 2016 to shoulder the work for my mother. We were also saving money for transferring process later on. I will continue my passion of pursuing a Physics major and hopefully get transferred to UC Davis in a two year
I really enjoyed the accounting specialization because I feel that I’m very comfortable with numbers and I like solving analytical problems. I also like the social aspect that would come with accounting, like communicating with your colleagues at work about what you discovered or useful information. I think working with financial records of a firm or business would be interesting because you never know what to expect to happen and you have to be quick to adapt to certain situations.
Finding out about my grandmothers death was the saddest moment in my life . I didn't understand . I didn't expect it to happen , not to me . I wondered why god had taken an important person away from my life , ad for that i felt confused and miserable . I cried for hours that day . Nothing could have brought me joy that day but the presence of my grandmother , but she was gone and i found it hard to overcome the situation.
The importance of accounting education is that it is the language of business and the language of all financial things (DoBE, 2003:7). The subject accounting develops learners’ knowledge, skills, values, attitudes and ability to make meaningful and informed personal and collaborative financial decisions in economic and social environments (DoBE, 2003:9). Accountants are
Accounting is a job that I have had my eyes set on for years. While I was younger, I did a lot with money and it had fascinated me. My fun was playing Monopoly as the banker or going shopping with my parents and add up their total to see how close I get. I felt math and cash was my thing and still is to this day, all because of what I did when I was younger. I want to be successful in what I love to do.
interest me. I have considered Business Administration, Early Childhood Education, Elementary Education, History, Political Science, Secondary Education, Small Business Ownership, and Theatre. Because I am interested is such a wide variety of majors, I am going into General Studies until I make a decision. I have considered starting my own business, most likely a pet store or clothing store, so that is why I have thought about majoring in Business Administration and Small Business Ownership. However, in the economy right now and the small town area I live in, it would be difficult opening a small business. I have taken this into consideration and that is not my first option at the moment. I have always been good with kids and I think I would enjoy teaching them, so I have thought about majoring in some form of
At a very young age, I have experienced a very hard death in my family, I lost my mother. She was the most important person in my life besides my father at that time. We were going through such a hard time and my siblings and I was very concerned about our father and how he was taking it so we encouraged him to go out and meet him a new friend. Well, he did and he met my mother (there is no such thing as the step) Judith Joyce. This woman came into our lives and took on a task that she could have just said no to. She had the option to say no to the chaos that was set in the future but she didn't, she showed us no matter what life throws ahead of you, keep pushing because one day you want to just give it all up but instead you don't because
During my college years, the hardest choice I had to make was deciding on a major and choosing a career path. When I came to OCC I knew I loved business but I was also curious about accounting. I found that the business degree with a concentration in accounting was the program for me. It’s the one degree that gives me the strong foundation to get me into the business world and having the accounting minor gives me the tools I need to succeed. The reason accounting may be one of the best degrees to a successful business career is because accounting has always been considered as the language of business. Accounting is defined as the information system that measures business activities, processes information into reports, and communicates the results
I am a smart, hardworking and organized student with a 3.81 GPA, who wants nothing but success in life and won’t let nothing or no one stop me. I do have many projects that I will be facing in the near future, but the first project that I will be facing is finishing college and getting my college degree. While I am on this journey on getting my degree I have to remember what’s important. The steps I am going to take to make sure I get my degree is I will get help when I need it, stay on track and stay focus. They say it doesn’t matter how long you take to get your degree, as long as you get it.
When I was fourteen an aunt that I was very close to was diagnosed with brain cancer. The feeling of hopelessness was overwhelming. Her condition was getting worse by the day and it was not long before she passed away. I was so depressed at the loss of my aunt until my mom reminded me that as a family we were all sealed at the temple
My first goal is to continue my education by earning a Master’s degree in Accounting right after completing my bachelor’s degree. The MSU’s Accounting program attracts me for both its reputation and its career opportunities available for international students. It is my responsibility as a future accountant to be really familiar and proficient at the tools accountants use regularly. Achieving my master’s degree will also help me achieving my second goal of becoming a CPA by meeting the requirement of curriculum. Thus, I am professionally and academically motivated to earn a Master’s degree of Accounting at the Broad Business College.
Accountants are becoming a needed job in the business industry and play a very important role in the success of many businesses. This job usually requires at least a bachelor’s degree in accounting and sometimes even a CPA (Certified Public Accountant). There are many other things that are needed to be considered before choosing this career. The job environment, education, skills, and benefits are just some of the many things that need to be thought through before considering this career.
The reason I decided to pursue a career in accounting is because I have always been interested in the business world and accounting is considered a basic tool of business. I have worked for small and large business firms; also in private and public sectors which helped me develop a strong linking with the industry as a whole and solidified my interest in accounting.
My interest in Accounting and Finance stems from wanting to understand how governments and businesses make their vital decisions to be profitable. Studying this degree, will allow me to gain an understanding of financial accounting, management accounting and taxation providing me with skills to analyse data and develop my decision making. Additionally being able to incorporate different aspects of business alongside the core modules; will give me more knowledge of the world of accounting and finance.
