World War One was one of the most tremendous crisis’ the world has ever faced. It occurred between 28 July 1914 and 11 November 1918 and by the end of it, over 17 million men were killed. The formation of the two Alliances (Triple Entente and Triple Alliance) had resulted in a world wide tragedy. The responsibility for the war is not certain as there are many different opinions. The beliefs included the Austrian Archduke’s assassination, Austria-Hungary declaring war on Serbia or Germany declaring war on Russia. The first blame for the responsibility of World War One was the assassination of Austrian Archduke (Franz Ferdinand) and his wife. After noticing that Germany was the enemy, Russia created a mobilisation in four districts that faced the Galicia (it’s common front with the Austro-Hungarian empire) and Germany soon discovered this. According to Clevelode, The Russian army was considerably 5 times larger than Germany’s and Austria-Hungary’s combined meaning more supply and more backup men for Russia if a war was to break out. Germany then became extremely intimidated by the Russian numbers and soon asked for Russia to shut their mobilisation down but Russia declined the offer. Germany then went on to view the mobilisation as an act of war against Austria-Hungary so they soon declared war on Russia (1 August 1914). Germany then went on to creating their own ultimatum demanding that Belgium must allow transit for Germany but the British soon found out and declared war on Germany. According to Michael Duffy, ‘Germany had soon declared war on Russia for creating a mobilisation as an act of war against Austria-Hungary, which brings all different European countries and some other British established countries into war’. This quote shows how the blame was mainly on Germany for the outbreak of World War One and how the Alliances created, what was supposed to be, a strictly limited/brief war into something beyond
