Uncharted 4: A Thief's End marks the debut of Naughty Dog's wildly popular Sony-exclusive series on the Playstation 4. In Uncharted 4, Nathan Drake reunites with his long-lost brother in order to track down a vast pirate fortune - by climbing old architecture, solving intricate puzzles, and murdering lots and lots of bad guys. Does Uncharted's first foray onto current generation hardware constitute a hit, or is the series a relic best left on the PS3? The Penitent Thief Nathan skillfully navigates the boat carrying him and his brother, Sam Drake, through the hazardous waters with Shoreline mercenaries in hot pursuit. As the mercenaries gain on the two treasure hunters, Sam assumes cover and lays down suppressing fire as Nathan accelerates into the waves in an attempt to lose their pursuers. Naughty Dog should be commended for pacing themselves initially, granting themselves the time to reintroduce returning characters, introduce new ones, and elaborate on the relationships between them surprisingly well - in particular with regards to the relationship between Sam and Nathan, and Nathan's marriage to Elena. And while Uncharted 4's narrative doesn't stray too far from what has worked in earlier installments, the added emphasis on characterization and tenuous interpersonal relationships makes it feel more real than prior entries in the series. Because while the surface-level globetrotting, treasure hunting shenanigans are executed splendidly, it's the multifaceted, flawed characters that elevate the narrative. Nowhere is this better exemplified than in the strained marriage between Elana and Nathan; while the two are obviously madly in love with one another, Nathan's lack of proper communication and longing for another adventure is poignant and
