Fight for Equality: Blacks vs Whites Ever since the time of slavery, there has been this crack between the equality of blacks and whites. Blacks were never considered equal since they were brought over to the America for labor purposes. As time went by, African Americans gained more freedom and equal rights but there is still a distinctive difference between the two races. The great divide between blacks and whites has become a great challenge in the United States because of the inequality in many different aspects of the country, such as racial discrimination, barriers to black progress and the prospects for change. The cause behind these problems are the lack of support in many different factors. According to U.S. NEWS, lower wealth, lower health, lower parental education levels, and lower expectations are all reasons why black students do not have equal education. Official schooling starts at about the same time for black and white students. Black children who are about 4 years of age are just as likely to be involved in center-based care, thanks in large part to Head Start programs. But black children are much more likely than white children to be enrolled in low-quality day care. Once formal schooling begins, inequalities continue. More than 140,000 students were held back in kindergarten in the 2011-2012 school year. Black students are more likely to be held back. On the SAT, black students had a mean score of 428 for critical reading and 428 for math, compared with mean scores for white students of 527 for critical reading and 536 for math. (Cook, 2015) To assess the issue in education, cities should create a program that will promote higher test scores and lower the dropout/retentions rate. The program could consist of volunteer tutoring from higher-quality schools. It has been said that young black men were nine times more likely than other Americans to be killed by police officers in 2015. (Jon Swaine, 2015) Police Officers have this stereotype that all black men are part of gangs and violence. One black male was pulled over in his vehicle for looking similar to a suspect of a robbery, but ended up getting murdered by Minnesota police after the officer assumed the victim was reaching for a weapon. Philando Castile was a 32-year-old black man who has a gun license to hold a firearm. There was even video and voice recordings from the police body cams that show Castile wasn’t reaching for his gun. (Craven, 2017) The officer was charged but found not guilty. The legal system is very unstable and not secured for victims killed by police officers. All these killings have caused massed rioting across the states representing ‘Black Lives Matter’. To resolve these problems, programs that will offer security for these scared individuals can be offered without segregating the people. Police Officers can be taught to have different procedures when involved with these situations. Officers should never pull out a gun out first, rather have a taze gun, or some other sort, that will prevent the killing. On the other hand, it would have some difficulty for
