Abortion is a very serious situation, one out of four women goes through with an abortion; most of these women are under the age of eighteen. Most people believe abortion should stay legal, because they feel that abortion is helpful in their situations. But there is also a handful of people believe abortion should defiantly be illegal, because they feel that having an abortion is not a useful procedure. In most cases people would have to agree with the handful of people that are against abortion, unless in serious cases because abortion happens way too much. Another reason for abortion to be legal is if the mother had done drugs or drank lots of alcohol, while being pregnant.
As liberals would say, a fetus at very early stages is not a human life. Therefore, if the woman wants an abortion, she is not harming anyone in the process; in fact, she is most saving herself from going through all this trouble of taking care of the baby. Many young girls should have the right to an abortion if they are not financially stable. The topic of abortion is one of the most controversial issues in today’s society. Thousands of abortions take place every single day, and yet public opinion remains at a standstill as to whether or not abortion is ethical or not. According to a poll in 2013, fifty-four percent of the American public believes that the practice of abortion should be legal in all or most cases (“Public Opinion on Abortion”) Abortion has been defined as “the act of removing a human embryo or fetus from the uterus of a pregnant woman prior to the completion of the full term of pregnancy”(Rich, Wagner, and Geraldine). There are very strong opinions for and against this issue, but no one can deny the vast gray area of abortion. A person’s stance on the situation is often determined by how he views the fetus: a part of the mother’s body or as a human being.
Most people do not know the exact term of what an abortion is. Many women just expect to go to the doctor take a pill (if it is an early stage of pregnancy) or have a procedure done to remove the baby, but what is really being done here? The Merriam-Webster dictionary defines abortion as the termination of a pregnancy after, accompanied by, resulting in, or closely followed by the death of the embryo or fetus. It is almost impossible to find a definition that explains abortion without a noun having to do with death. “We know that it’s killing, but the state permits killing under certain circumstances.”(Sender 1) Dr. Neville Sender, an abortionist, says about his procedures.
