When I began volunteering at CARE, I wasn’t sure what to expect since I never worked or volunteered at any shelter. It was interesting and very educational to see how things ran and just what exactly a volunteer would do here. It was a little frightening my first day and even more so because I jumped right in and asked to walk a dog, I was handed Lacy. Lacy was a very sweet and somewhat large dog, I was just unsure most of the time but she was patient and even sometimes would lead the way since she walked through those trails countless time. I’ve learned many new ways on how cats and dogs should be treated and their necessities. I’d like to also continue my scenic walks with large, medium, and small dogs, it makes me very content to see a dog jump up with excitement when they see that they get to be taken out for a walk. It sometimes can be a little sad though to hear one of your regular buddies had gotten adopt but it also it can put a smile on your face to know that someone else saw how great they were. I’m someone who loves all types of animals and every time I walk into C.A.R.E it seriously makes want to take all of them home with me, but I know that’s not possible now. But in the future when I finish my education here, I plan on coming back and maybe find my own four-legged best-friend and possibly take him/her back home with me and be part of a family. C.A.R.E has made me have a more greater appreciation for animal shelters, I can see that they don’t just want to save animals whether it is from homes where they may not have been wanted anymore, or they were just tossed to curb, or wounded. Finding a nice new home for cats and dogs is what they want, and with the overpopulation being an issue it’s becoming harder and harder for shelters to do
