What do you think of Standardized Testing? Many parents are upset that so much time, energy and money is being put in to High-Stakes testing. Many people believe educator, Parent and teacher Steven Singer put it best when he said “I think standardized testing is destroying public education. It is stressing kids out… and it is using these false measures of proficiency to ‘prove’ how bad public schools are.” Some Believe that standardized testing is a good way to measure children’s educations, but more believe that it should not be as it is for many reasons. Well, mainly North Korea (NK) and Finland, both for deferent reasons. NK goes insane with their educational systems. First off, their students spend over 8.5 hours at school every day, with over 75% of students attending anywhere from 1-3 hours of “cramming” classes afterward. Well, now on to the slightly more probable choice, Finland. They don’t go to school until they’re seven, and they don’t even take their first standardized test until they’re seventeen, (the SAT), and overall, they spend less time in classes than students in the US. Now, at first, this may sound bad, however it is a well and widely-known fact that their grades are much higher, along with their test scores. This was established because all the Finnish (parents, teachers, students, etc.) have a certain respect and even pride for their education and intelligence that is missing in many young children’s minds here in the …show more content…

Among these reasons are opt-outs, stats that say over 64% of Americans know, that’s right know, that too much stress is being put on standardized testing, and the fact that students with different educational needs cannot truly be compared. Opponents make some good points to, for example 81% of high-schoolers graduate, High-stakes testing helps teachers focus on the most important subjects, and test standards help schools know where they stand nationally, but that’s all they are. Some good points. I have much more proof of stats, and much more evidence of facts. I hope I have inspired you to act fast by participating (for better or for worse) in polls or debates before this issue arises more than it already has and destroys public education
