The traditional record updation in PN ships is very time consuming and involves a lot of people. The manual system which is currently being used by Pakistan navy ships makes it very difficult to converge on Ship’s objectives. Not only this, it involves number of personnel and is inefficient. The project that will be examined is an upgrade to our main Human-Machine Interface (HMI) software: Cimplicity, to SQL Server and to the Windows OS. Cimplicity is a product of the GEFanuc group of General Electric. This group develops a full suite of applications used in the manufacturing environment. By way of introduction, the manufacturing floor environment uses a variety of types of equipment. To control these machines, a specialized computer is used. For the purposes of simplicity (not the program), this paper will refer to them all as PLC's or Programmable Logic Controllers. Most of these PLC's are accessible via the ethernet and communicate to our Protocol Data Units (PDU) in the computer room. These PDU's have Cimplicity installed on them in the form of projects that are named for the various areas or functions of our plant such as GA or General Assembly. The project we are undertaking will be a fundamental change to these PDU's in our computer room. The servers currently run Windows NT and will be upgraded to Windows Server 2003 or Windows 2000 and SQL Server will will be upgraded from version 7 to SQL 2000.

1) Naval Supply System Command (NAVSUP) Fleet Logistics Centers (FLCs) under direction of PACFLT has begun to award Multiple Award Contracts (MAC) for husbanding services for all port visits in our AORs. A MAC is procured on a full and open competition on Federal Business Opportunities (http://fbo.gov/). Eventually, all port visits will be under MAC practice which is competitively bid by various Husbanding Service Providers (HSPs). Consequently, HSPs will be more and more unseasoned when it comes to the intricacies of the submarine mooring functions. Early communication with HSPs will grow more important to mitigate risks associated with their relatively low experience. We plan to issue LOGREQs six to eight weeks prior to a visit (rather than the required four) in our more "robust" non-Navy ports to allow plenty of time to address questions and identify earlier who the awarded HSP will be. This approach will also allow for earlier communication between the HSPs and the N4 boat managers.
