ICT and computers are NOT the same thing. An ICT system is a set-up
consisting of hardware, software, data and the people who use them. It
very often also includes communications technology, such as the
Internet. Computers are the hardware that is often part of an ICT
system.
This is why your GCSE is not just about computers, but about how,why
and when people use them. It is the power of computers and
communications that has allowed ICT systems to become so important.
Like any piece of equipment, the important thing about it is what it
lets us do.
ICT Systems are used in a whole host of places, from offices, shops,
factories, aircraft, ships, and communications to medicine and
farming. They are everyday and ordinary yet extraordinary in how they
can add extra power to what we do and want to do.
ICT systems have become important because by using them we become:
* More productive in that we can do more things more quickly and at
reduced cost.
* More accurate and able to work continuously.
* Able to deal with vast amounts of information and process it
quickly.
* They can transport information rapidly.
Types of ICT system
-------------------
There are different types of ICT system. The main aim of each system
decides which name is sometimes used for it.
Information systems
Many ICT systems are set up to manage data and information. Examples
of these are a Sports Club membership system or a Supermarket Stock
system.
Control Systems
Other ICT systems have controlling machines as their main aim. They
still use input, process and output, but the output may be moving a
robot arm to weld a car chassis rather than information.
Communications Systems
Yet other ICT systems are dedicated to communications. Their output is
the successful transport of data from one place to another.
Input, output & system diagrams
-------------------------------
What comes out of an ICT systems is largely dependant on what you put
into the system. The acronym GIGO is a good way of thinking about
this.
GIGO can be interpreted in 2 ways:
1. Good Input, Good Output
ICT systems work by taking inputs or instructions and data, processing
them and producing outputs that are stored or communicated in some
way. The higher quality and better thought-out the instructions, the
higher quality and more useful will be the outputs.
2. Garbage In, Garbage Out
ICT systems all "fall down" if the inputs are inaccurate or faulty;
they will either not be able to process the data at all, or will
output data which is eroneous or useless. That's why the term GIGO is
sometimes used to stand for "Garbage In, Garbage Out".
A largely debated topic in today's society is whether or not psychedelic drugs should be legalized for medicinal purposes and if they should, how this legalization would affect the communities in which they’re being prominently medicinally used. Although many scientists have argued that psychedelics pose a mental health risk, closer examination shows that communities would have a significantly lower depression rate if certain psychedelics were legalized. Now to fully understand how psychedelics could be beneficial or the opposite thereof, you’ll need to understand how they work and what they are. What a psychedelic drug is, the immediate effects, both mentally and physically, and how communities might benefit and function with the sudden use of these drugs.
N,N-dimethyltryptamine(DMT) is a psychoactive chemical in the tryptamine family, which causes intense visuals and strong psychedelic mental affects when smoked, injected, snorted, or when swallowed orally (with an MAOI such as haramaline). DMT was first synthesized in 1931, and demonstrated to be hallucinogenic in 1956. It has been shown to be present in many plant genera (Acacia, Anadenanthera, Mimosa, Piptadenia, Virola) and is a major component of several hallucinogenic snuffs (cohoba, parica, yopo). It is also present in the intoxicating beverage ayahuasca made from banisteriopsis caapi. This drink inspired much rock art and paintings drawn on the walls of native shelters in tribal Africa- what would be called 'psychedelic' art today (Bindal, 1983). The mechanism of action of DMT and related compounds is still a scientific mystery, however DMT has been identified as an endogenous psychadelic- it is a neurotransmitter found naturally in the human body and takes part in normal brain metabolism. Twenty-five years ago, Japanese scientists discovered that the brain actively transports DMT across the blood-brain barrier into its tissues. "I know of no other psychedelic drug that the brain treats with such eagerness," said one of the scientists. What intrigued me were the questions, how and why does DMT alter our percep...
It will not be exaggerated if we conclude that we are 'soaked in this cultural rain of marketing communications' through TV, press, cinema, Internet, etc. (Hackley and Kitchen, 1999). But if thirty years ago the marketing communication tools were used mainly as a product-centered tactical means, now the promotional mix, and in particular the advertising is focused on signs and semiotics. Some argue that the marketers' efforts eventually are "turning the economy into symbol so that it means something to the consumer" (Williamson, cited in Anonymous, Marketing Communications, 2006: 569). One critical consequence is that many of the contemporary advertisements "are selling us ourselves" (ibid.)
Psychedelic drugs affect more then creativity, they are also known to have the ability to increase the users sense of spirituality and religion. In the academic journal, “Voice of The Psychonauts,” author Levente Moro explores the correlation between spirituality, and psychedelic drug use. He claims that when psychedelic drugs are taken in a “supportive” environment they have the ability to induce “deeply meaningful religious revelations and spiritual awakenings” (Moro et al. 190). Psychedelic drug use in hopes of spiritual revelations is not new, and has actually been going on for hundreds of years. The Native American Church has been known to traditionally use psychedelic drugs for spiritual experiences (Moro et al. 190). Some Mexican tribes are also known to ingest psilocybin mushrooms in order to induce religious awakenings (Moro et al. 190). To further prove his argument, Levente Moro conducted an online survey amongst 667 random people. His results suggested that people still take psychedelic drugs in order to have religious experiences, even though it is looked down upon in certain religious groups (Moro et al. 195). Levente Moro is not the only one interested in psychedelic drugs and religion. Many other scientists have also examined this theory. In the article, “Values and Beliefs of Psychedelic Drug Users,” author Michael Lerner also discusses the relationship between psychedelic drug use and spirituality. Lerner also believes that when psychedelic drugs are taken with the correct mindset, they have the ability to increase ones sense of religion. In order to test his theory, Michael Lerner had 183 volunteers fill out a questionnaire. Even though he conducted the survey amongst people from all over the world...
Although in the modern world such drugs have developed an almost taboo status, it is impossible to ignore the tales of enlightenment reported by ancient cultures and even those rebels that use such drugs illegally today. While the American government has been one of the main influences on today’s society’s negative attitudes towards psychedelic drugs, they have granted some scientist and psychologists permission to experiment with such agents, and despite the controversy and varying results there seem to be many positive uses of psychedelic agents. These positive uses and the research that has been directed toward these uses will be reviewed in the following, as well as a brief history of psychedelic drugs.
Qantas Airways Limited (Qantas) is an Australian based airline group, engaged in the operation of both domestic and international air transportation services. Qantas, with revenue of almost sixteen billion dollars in the 2013 Australian financial year (Qantas Airways Limited, 2013), competes in four main market segments with business units including Qantas Domestic, Qantas International, Jetstar and Qantas Loyalty. Within these business units, Qantas also operate a range of synergistic subsidiaries including Q Catering, which provides food and beverage services of all its airline business along with Q Freight, Australia’s largest independent air freight services Supporting the airline operations is the investment or partnership in a range of infrastructure holdings, including terminals and passengers lounges throughout the world (Qantas Airways Limited, 2014).
Despite the growth in the market, Qantas International’s market share has been falling over the past 10years, from 34% in FY02 to 16% in FY13. The entry of Virgin Australia in 2000 in part explains this, however Virgin’s growth also coincided with the demise of Ansett in 2001 “… Virgin Blue will initially increase capacity on existing routes while evaluating what c...
While hallucinogenic drugs have been used for centuries, it was not until the discovery by Western society of their mind-altering properties (Hofmann 1959; Stoll 1947; Delgado, Pedro L; Moreno, Francisco A) that these compounds began to be more widely used for treatment of mental disorders (see Abraham, Aldridge & Gogia 1996; Strassman 1995; Neill 1987; McGlothlin & Arnold 1971; Freedman 1968; Delgado, Pedro L; Moreno, Francisco A). Hallucinates are derived from plants or the fungus that grows on plants, the first recorded hallucination was a tossup between mental issues that were then used for a political push or the ergotamine during the Salem witch trails in 1962, far after that Albert Hofmann became the creator of LSD from ergotamine a chemical from the fungus ergot, in Switzerland 1938. From that time LSD has played a part in history, studies have shown that much has changed in the half-century since LSD was first used by psychiatrists and then found widespread recreational use in the 1960's and 70's. Modern psychiatry has embraced drugs that affect the same brain molecules that are tweaked by hallucinogens (Blakeslee,
“In the twentieth century, advertising evolved into a form of persuasive social discourse intended primarily to influence how we perceive the buying and consumption of goods,” (Danesi 179).

A Room with a View, by Edward Morgan Forster, presents the story of Lucy Honeychurch, a young woman belonging to English “high society.'; Foster places this young maiden in a state of conflict between the snobbery of her class, the “suitable and traditional'; views and advice offered by various family members and friends, and her true heart’s desire. ...r was both alcoholic and prostitute which had certainly impact on his growth and development. Charles basically had no control over his life, being shifted from different homes; he had no steadiness in his life, the desire for stability and family lead Manson to manipulate people. The Eysneck’s theory suggests that there are two categories of personalities which are extraversion or introversion and stability or instability, from the Eysneck’s personality theory point of view, Charles would most likely be categorized as an extravert, some of the features of someone who is extravert might have is intelligence, impulsivity, aggressiveness and empathy which Charles Manson had. There might be different theories such as biology, strain and others that could explain his criminal behaviors, however, psychological theories seem to be more convincing in Charles Manson’s case.
When you think of Marketing and Technology, how would you correlate the two? Well Marketer's uses certain types of technology to improve an organization or business. One of the purposes of incorporating certain types of technologies when dealing with marketing is to: improve customer acquisition and retention, design loyalty programs, and initiate cross-selling and up-selling. Most organizations have a database that includes current and prospective customers. If they don't and outside company is hired to develop one as well as manage it. These companies come up with many types of marketing technologies consulting, which includes analytics, developing technical specifications, and campaign management.
Advertising has been defined as the most powerful, persuasive, and manipulative tool that firms have to control consumers all over the world. It is a form of communication that typically attempts to persuade potential customers to purchase or to consume more of a particular brand of product or service. Its impacts created on the society throughout the years has been amazing, especially in this technology age. Influencing people’s habits, creating false needs, distorting the values and priorities of our society with sexism and feminism, advertising has become a poison snake ready to hunt his prey. However, on the other hand, advertising has had a positive effect as a help of the economy and society.
