Ulcerative colitis (UC) is a chronic disease that affects a part of the large intestine known as the colon and the end part of the digestive tract also known as the rectum. Ulcers are formed in the lining of the colon which produce pus or mucus and can cause bleeding. The symptoms associated with the disease may be minor or can be major depending on the the extent of ulcerations that are present. The symptoms of the disease can include a cramping sensation in the abdominal area, presence of blood in the stool, fever, joint pain, diarrhea, rectal discomfort and the loss of weight.
Suspected Causes
Studies have failed to understand the core reason behind the development of this problem however, several factors have been suspected contributors to the onset of ulcerative colitis. suspect that bacteria maybe one of the main culprits behind the problem. “The researchers believe that certain strains of bacteria residing in the colon degrade the walls and can cause ulcers” .
Other studies have shown that the disease is inheritable and therefore can be genetic in character. Familial aggregation and prevalence of the disease in different ethnic groups e.g. Jews lend support to the fact that the problem may be genetic in nature. “Even though researchers are still not able to pinpoint the specific gene suspected to cause ulcerative colitis, it has been shown that one or more genes are involved”.
However, the most important cause is immunological response of the human body. Abnormal response of the immune system have been the prime suspect. Studies have shown that both B and T cells are involved in “the persistence of inflammation but the initial interactions that take place in the mucosa in terms of antigen processing and presentatio...

The role of intestinal fauna was not well understood before this. Recent microbial research has shown that bacteriotherapy can also be used for treatment. “Colonic infusion of donor human intestinal flora can reverse ulcerated colitis in select patients”.
Statistics have shown that ulcerative colitis rates have been on the rise in recent years and the trend is not in the U.S. alone but has also been found in almost all other countries. Research should be oriented towards understanding the accurate causes of ulcerative colitis and design management strategies and other treatment strategies accordingly.
in the upper GI tract. Gastric and duodenal ulcers can also result from Crohn’s disease and Zollinger-Ellison syndrome (ZES). The patient does not report a history of Crohn’s disease nor is he symptomatic for it. His symptoms do not indicate (ZES). ZES is a hyper secretory gastric acid disorder that results in multiple peptic ulcers, kidney stones, watery diarrhea and malabsorption.
Lupus is inflammatory disease caused when the immune system attacks its own tissues and organs, and this inflammation affects many different body parts such as the joints, skin, kidneys, blood cells, brain, heart and lungs. Second is the Celiac disease and it is an autoimmune reaction from eating gluten, and it may lead to damage in the small intestine because this disease attacks the villi, the projections that line the small intestine for protection. The last example is Rheumatoid Arthritis, an inflammatory disorder in which affects many joints, mainly in hands and feet, and then causing your joints to painfully swell and possibly cause bone erosion.
(What is....2016). The first documented case of Crohn’s disease suspected was King Alfred in 850 A.D. This disease is named after a Jewish man named Dr. Burrill Bernard Crohn (1884-1983) who became interested in the condition as his father, also a Dr, suffered from a disorder of the bowel. He devoted his career to “regional enteritis” the disease that now bares his name. It is necessary to understand the disease to be able to provide care for people who are afflicted by it (de Campos and Kotze 2013). Especially since Crohn’s is a chronic disease or a lifelong affliction it’s important to understand etiology, it’s symptoms, treatments, and to maintain the disease and the psychological well being of the patient managed (Crohn’s...2015).
Crohn’s disease also appears to affect certain ethnic groups more than others. American Jews of European descent are four to five times more likely to de...
Celiac Disease is an inflammatory disease that destroys the lining of the small intestines and prevents the absorption of nutrients and vitamins into the system. The patients' health suffers; their digestive system is unable to process gluten foods that contain wheat, barley, and oats. The cause of this disease is unknown; however, environmental factors and a genetic predisposition are suspected.
For many years, stomach was thought to be sterile due to its high acidic secretions in the gastric juice(#73) that’s why physicians previously attributed ulcers to stress or anxiety

There are several forms of both of these diseases. The type of each disease relates to the location in digestive tract in which the inflammation is occurring. Whereas one person may experience discomfort originating from the area of the gastrointestinal tract that is near the rectum, anot...

Unending weakness, untimely maturing, joint inflammation, poor skin and hair quality, danger, hypersensitivities, growth, and numerous different ailments can all outcome from flawed assimilation since poor processing meddles with supplement breakdown, ingestion and digestion system; permits poisons to stay in the body and aggregate; and over anxieties the body. The gastrointestinal framework assumes a focal part in safe framework homeostasis. It is the primary course of contact with the outer environment and is over-burden each day with outside jolts, now and again hazardous as pathogens (microscopic organisms, protozoa, parasites, infections) or harmful substances, in different cases exceptionally helpful as nourishment or commensal vegetation. The critical position of the gastrointestinal framework is affirmed by the colossal measure of invulnerable cells that dwell inside it. Without a doubt, gut-related lymphoid tissue (GALT) is the noticeable piece of mucosal-related lymphoid tissue (MALT) and speaks to right around 70% of the whole safe framework; also, around 80% of plasma cells [mainly immunoglobulin An (IgA)- bearing cells] live in GALT. GALT communicates entirely with gastrointestinal capacities in a dynamic way; for example, by expanding intestinal penetrability in replay
After seeing the recent post by Aimee Rouski on facebook. I became curious about Crohn 's Disease. I had little to no knowledge of the disease, and had heard little about it. In this article I will share my research into Symptoms of Chrons, Chrons Diet, and Medicine for Crohns.
The cause of Crohn’s disease is unknown, but researchers believe it is the result of an abnormal reaction by the body’s immune system. Normally, the immune system protects people from infection by identifying and destroying bacteria, viruses, or other potentially harmful foreign substances. Researchers believe that in Crohn’s disease the immune system attacks bacteria, foods, and other substances...
Ulcerative colitis, or UC, is a chronic gastrointestinal disease that causes inflammation and ulcers in the lining of the large intestine. It causes ulcers in the colon and rectum. Ulcerative colitis is one of two forms of inflammatory bowel disease. In UC, the inflammation from the ulcers breaks down the lining of the colon and causes bleeding and discomfort in the abdomen.
Inflammatory bowel disease is a life long disease, and it particularly targets the gastrointestinal tract (GI tract), which consists of the mouth, esophagus, stomach small intestine, large intestine (appendix, cecum, colon (ascending, transverse, descending, and sigmoid), and rectum), and anus. The gastrointestinal tract is very important to the human body; some of its functions include mechanical and chemical digestion of food, the movement of food and waste from mouth to anus, secretion of enzymes and mucus, and the absorption of nutrients. These are some reason why it’s so destructive when this part of the body becomes impaired or even damaged.
