Pilates is a form of exercise, developed by Joseph Pilates in the 1920s originally used as a rehabilitation program for prisoners of war and was later found to be of great benefit to anyone seeking a higher level of fitness. It focuses on developing a balanced body through core strength, flexibility, breath, and awareness in order to support efficient, agile movement. The ABC’s of Pilates are awareness, breath, and core. The benefits of doing Pilates are a stronger core, relief of lower back pain, flexibility, posture, and the ability to move your body more efficiently.
The ABC’s of Pilates are the basic principles incorporated into every exercise. A is for awareness, Pilates teaches one how to be more aware of your body and what muscles to engage when doing particular movements and enables you to keep your body more aligned.
