Recommended: Definition of a hero

Hero what is the true distinction of the word? Society believes today that if someone who has a big wallet, the natural pizazz and the world following and a few humanitarian acts. Though there are many different definitions to the word let's focus on the definition of the word A person noted for feats of courage or nobility of purpose, especially one who has risked or sacrificed his or her life. To become a hero you have to do something that catches someone's eye or attention this does not have to be anything big because a hero can be one who accomplishes even the smallest act or achievement. In society today it is very easy to name a celebrity, sports figure, or cultural icon as a hero. There seems that they only qualification nowadays is to make a donation here or there and not be in any trouble. Hero takes a lot more than a big bank account, name recognition or fame they do things because they care about a bigger cause then themselves. True heroes are the ones who put others before themselves and not worry about the outcome or consequences.
Media today tries to use the definition in the original sense of the word when naming news stories and acknowledging the everyday hero. A hero is a person who is unselfish. Unselfish is willing to put the needs of others before one’s own. An American soldier is a perfect example of a person who is unselfish. They volunteer their own life for the freedom of their loved ones and strangers they have never even met. That shows the true definition of a person who is unselfish.
It is the last definition provided that most people apparently have in mind when deciding upon whom to idolize and endeavor to imitate. They want to be like their favorite star, model, CEO, politician, or pro-athlete. In fa...

Icons, celebrities and sports figures while we all enjoy watching them when they are doing what they have been blessed to do for a living do not deserve to be heroes just because of admiration. All we have to do is look inside the neighborhoods, families, and communities and we will find many heroes who never asked or received the proper recognition because of society’s standards. Hopefully this trend will take a turn and the media will realize that it loses its merit when a musician getting arrested is more important news than the sweeping winter storm that is going across the North and leaving families stranded and some even without power.
