What is a hero? Is a hero someone that is the same for each person, or is it for each person different? Does someone’s hero depend on their perspective? Do all heroes need superpowers or something that puts them above the regular human? While those are arguable one thing is for sure heroes are based of heroism, and heroism is “Great Bravery” as defined by google. A hero is anyone who shows great bravery and is uses courage, a hero can be anybody, there is no true definition of what a true hero, and because it could all change because of your point of view or perspective. A hero is anybody that shows courage, great bravery. A hero is someone that stands up for what they believe in, they stand up for others who can’t, who don’t have the power to help or save themselves. In everyday life people show great bravery, and they are ordinary people with ordinary life’s. They know they have the power to help others and they do. As a few firefighter quotes say "People always ask how is it that firefighters run into a burning building when everyone is running out. Courage is the answer. What those two quotes are saying is that courage is the thing that pushes heroes forward. It is the thing that keeps heroes saving people’s lives, without it there would be no heroes in the world. A person who overcomes antagonistic and unnecessary issues in a mature and powering manor. That is the definition of a hero to me. Someone who is being hurt and sees others hurt from the actions and takes charge and does everything in his power to change it. Someone who puts others before themselves and acts in the most chivalrous way. The definition of a hero is different for everyone. Some one might think of a hero as someone who can lift a car and put it on their back, or gives a dying person their kidney. Yes all of those people are forms of hero’s. You can’t tell someone that they are not a hero just because they don’t change into a disguise in a telephone both or can throw lightning bolts from a cloud. Everyone is a hero in their own way.
In my opinion, a hero is someone whose principal purpose, whether it be in one situation or over the span of their entire life, is to help others while simultaneously making the world a better place. When the word hero is brought up, the most prevailing image that comes to mind is superheroes like Batman and Superman. But I don’t think you have to have superpowers or even be well known in order to be a hero. There are people all over the world whose intention is to do selfless deeds and go out of their way for others without expectation of obtaining anything in return. These are the type of people I like to consider everyday heroes. They go through life just trying to be the best they can and trying to help as many people as they can. Whether
Throughout the years, being a hero and the ideals of heroism have been subject to many changes. Many cultures differ on their views of what it takes to be a “hero.” Such as how The Odyssey by Homer, The Ramayana, and the present day have a view on heroes. Today we look up to our men in uniform and ordinary lay people, but as children we would marvel at the abilities of the “knights in shining armor” and idolize them as our heroes. With all these different beliefs it all brings us back to one question, what makes someone a hero? Meriam Webster…defines a hero “as a person who is admired for great or brave acts or fine qualities”.
“A hero is an ordinary individual who finds the strength to persevere and endure in spite of overwhelming obstacles” (Christopher Reeves). In other words a hero can be anyone that is determined and helps other people. A hero is someone who can face challenges with determination, who can persevere or exceed beyond expectation, but is not always buff, or strong.
A hero is someone who can portray courage when faced with a particular problem, able to assist others in certain ways and give them strength when faced with life's difficulties. In modern society, it is difficult to identify someone another individual can look up to as a hero. It takes a special person and quality to for others to follow and look up to without worrying that they can be led astray. A hero is someone who is able and willing to fight for everyone's freedom and to lay his life down for others (Kazin, 2013).
“There is a certain enthusiasm in life, that makes human nature rise above itself, in acts of heroism.” says founding father of the United States, Alexander Hamilton. Anyone can be a hero, but that someone has to have had stepped up and done something for the greater good. Also, everyone has the potential to be hero in them, but there are many qualities that heroes all have and are recognized for. Qualities that are necessary to reach the goal of being a hero. And so, just making good choices does not make heros, there is more to heroism. A hero is someone who is persistent during hard times and shows leadership when called out unexpectedly, but is not selfish when asked to put others before themselves.
Over the course of history the definition of what makes a hero has made many changes. Beowulf, Superman, and firefighters are all examples of heroes, but they are very different when broken down. Today’s society defines a hero by his values, his strength, and his journey.
The common definition of a hero today is that they have to have special powers or have some physical attribute that allows the hero to conquer his enemy's. To me a hero is not someone from comic books, or someone from a spy movie. In reality they are just people like you me. They stand up for what they believe; they speak up when someone does the wrong. They hey act not because they have "powers", but because they have and undeniable desire to do good, and the courage to act where others won't. In essence we all have these traits. Heroes have seven traits that make up who they are, these traits include; caring, open, understanding, reliable, action, goodness, and empathy. If all of these are put together, they spell out courage. Courage is what heroes had in earlier definitions.
One definition of a hero is being courageous. One exemplification of being fearless is Batman. He doesn't have any superpowers but fights against people who do. Like when he fought against Superman. He outsmarts him to fight against him and used his gadgets furthermore weakness to his advantage. This shows bravery because he fought against an alien with powers he's just a human. Another hero the show's fearlessness is spider-man. One way he's fearless is that he fought versus six villains nevertheless he works hard enough to defeat all of them. This shows bravery because while a normal person would run away he fought back. To be a hero, you have to be brave.
A hero can be anyone who try’s and never gives up no matter what it is. Hero’s help people when they need it the most in life. Hero’s always act brave even when they are really scared. They act like that because they know they are supposed to be no matter what’s wrong. The hero could have
In today's modern times we hear the word hero all of the time. The news media throws the term around as if it is an everyday word. What exactly is a hero? Who, or what, can be classified as heroic? The correct definition of the word hero is: One invested with heroic qualities in the opinions of others. That is a fine definition for books and intellectual minds. To the average person, however, a hero is much more.
Heroism can be defined differently to each person. The acts of of a defined ‘hero’ serve to help and make an impact on a life. The qualities show bravery and courage, whether they are defending our country or just simply lending a helping hand. A hero isn’t negative, nor a coward. A hero is there to help a person, or persons, and defend what is right. The meaning of a hero varies to each person, they make positive influences on the lives of other people with their heroic qualities.
The definition of a hero is someone willing to sacrifice themselves to help others without the consideration of their own safety. A soldier once wrote, "Those who face fire without fear or armor. Those who step into the darkness without assurances of ever walking out again, because they know there are others waiting in the dark, awaiting salvation." Hero is not a loose word that everyone uses. A hero must be someone great, someone rare, and someone who has that special something in them no other person has.
Heroes are perceived with a cape and a superpower but, that is not entirely true. Once said by Joseph Campbell, “A hero is someone who has given his or her life to something bigger than oneself.” That quote means heroes are much more than what media depicts them to be. A hero is a person who gets back up when they fall down, a hero is selfless, and also a hero is someone who has courage.
When a person thinks of a hero he/she may think of someone who has risked his/her life to save somebody in danger. For a person to be a hero, most people believe he/she should look danger in the face and laugh. To most, a true hero could be a wide range of things, from a police officer to a firefighter. A true hero is not necessarily one who risks his/her life for someone else. A true hero is a person who looks adversity in the face and accepts its challenge. A true hero is a person who tirelessly and effortlessly devotes themselves to the wellbeing of everyone around. A true hero puts their happiness on the line to make sure others will be happy. Some heroes such as my mom, dad, and brother, Brandon, may be forgotten by the world but will never be forgotten by me.
