According to Durward, his strategy for making healthy eating habits easy to implement is by matching the environment to work toward achieving his goal. Children view their parents as healthy adults and model for healthy eating or exercise for their kids help implant in them positive eating habits and healthy lifestyle. Also limiting access to junk foods at home and parents’ support for family meals increases the amounts of healthy foods kids eat. Thus, concluding that a healthy home environment and parental role modeling are important to promote healthy behaviors in children. Lastly social media and advertising can impact our eating habits in a pursuing way. For example, advertisements tend to pursue us by associating their products with something you feel positively about like a celebrity, love and respect. It pursues you to consider their food optional even if it will impact your eating habit negatively or positively. So they affect our nutritional choices by changing your decision about buying their products. In my conclusion, there are many factors that can affect our eating habits such as the environment, the media, and everyday lifestyle. It is apparent that living an unhealthy lifestyle, as well as eating poorly, negatively affects one’s health. From a young age it is quickly learned which foods are considered healthful as opposed to junk food. It is a parents responsibility to supervise the intake of their child's food, however there is a higher risk than ever before of childhood obesity.
Parents always want what is best for their children. They strive to provide for them, teach them, and to watch them grow into healthy, loving individuals. Despite this many parents continue to foster a habit that may prevent the goal of good health, unhealthy eating. Americans today consume too much fat, sugar, and food in general and its shows; rates of obesity and weight/diet related diseases such as diabetes are extremely high. In order to slow and eventually put a stop to this trend parents need to not only be aware and informed, but also need to take action and institute healthy eating habits from the very beginning.
Parents and caregivers have a lot of influence in the children’s life because of their concern and responsibilities for their wellbeing. Parents play at specific role in preventing their children from eating unhealthy meals. Although, parents and caregivers can help promote a healthy life style by improving nutrition meals and snack and engage their children’s in physical activity.

Parents should limit TV and computer time and instead gather the whole family to play outside for at least an hour. Parents should enforce a healthier lifestyle at home so that obesity could be avoided. What children learn at home about eating healthy, exercising and making the right nutritional choices will have an impact on them and affect other aspects later on in life. Focusing on these causes may decrease childhood obesity and lead to a healthier society as a whole.
Having a healthy lifestyle requires plenty of motivation and determination because of the multiple sacrifices that may occur during this process and the breakdowns and overwhelming feelings that you are going to have to get over. Through the article “Unhappy Meals”, author Michael Pollan reveals many simple, yet equally important principles on healthy eating. Pollan provides nine rules on how we should change our eating habits and, as a result, become healthy individuals. As a part of his nine rules, he advises that we should eat food that know of and are familiar with, and to consume mostly plants and home cooked meals (Pollan). Eating is an instinctual habit; however, what we decide to put in our body is a choice that will affect our way of living. In “The American Paradox,” Michael Pollan, a professor of journalism at University of California, Berkeley, disapproves of the way Americans have been eating. The term “American paradox” describes the inverse correlation where we spend more of our time on nutrition, but it would only lead to our overall health deteriorating. According to Pollan, our way of eating that had been governed with culture, or our mother, was changed by the entities of food marketers and scientists, who set up nutritional guidelines that changed the way we think about food. Proper nutrition is important in maintaining a long and healthy life. Most Americans are rushed due to their busy work schedules, and do not take the time to plan their diets properly. Like me, most Americans are unaware of the importance of eating a healthy diet and consume too many foods without the proper nutrients. Throughout my life I have been fortunate. I have not had any major health problems, and have been able to consume most foods without having to worry about gaining weight. These last two years, however, I started to gain weight and have become concerned with my diet. Changing my poor eating habits has been difficult for me, however, having this assignment has taught me that it is not as difficult as I previously imagined.
Through life we have many different stages to where we are either settling down for a nice home cooked meal or we are constantly on the go, running around our hectic lives, eating very unhealthy foods. With fast food restaurants spreading, new food products being produced, and health rates hiking in children between ages of 3-13, children are at a higher risk of reaching obesity. Nutrients are very important for children to contain in their body due to the fact they are growing regularly. Without the specific vitamins and minerals needed in the body, lack of physical activity, and false parental guidance, children are in jeopardy of becoming overweight. Should parents be responsible for this issue? Now a days everyone complains of how tired we feel, of how we have gained weight, and probably what we hear the most is why we can’t have healthy looking skin like all the superstars. There are so many choices to make when starting to eat healthy. People begin to question should I eat everything is the food pyramid, should I be counting all of my calories. Starting to eat healthy can be a bit overwhelming for everyone and everyone is thinking that starting process is difficult or that they are being peered pressured and that’s one of the main reasons why people quit before even starting.
