Colorado Christian University Reflection of English Composition 102 Learning the ropes of writing is essential for all your college courses, moreover, it develops great thinking habits and approaches to academic assignments. “English Composition 102” is one of the most important prerequisites I must complete before progressing to the next level within my program of study. As a Business Administration major, this writing composition course is “important” because it is guided by developing my “academic” accomplishments in future study areas in which I believe is crucial for my overall college performance. The learning process of scripting requires just as much practice as it is to rehearse for public speeches, lectures and presentations. Thus, learning how to write develop my parts of speech in which it coaches me in socializing with confidence. It is significant for me as an entrepreneur in the world of commercial enterprise. The world we will dwell in today is driven by communication the English language changes the manner we react. The way we understand attests the ways we communicate with civilization. The biblical perspective for session five of this class, “Using Resources Ethically”, reminds me that there is a right and wrong way to speak the “Truth”. English Composition II has unexpectedly improved my writing into an academic level. As I studied various English reading and writing courses, this class “English Composition II” did not immediately caught my eye. However as I researched about the concepts of this class, the decision to make was not so difficult since I was lacking in critical thinking and the interpretation of works. Also as a Business Major, it made sense that the subject of English would be of interest to me and as a career requirement. During the first weeks, I thought that I would be fully prepared for this course after taking an accelerated course in English during the spring semester. However, after attending class for about a month, I certainly did not expect to learn an entirely new process of writing
When going through life learning is an everyday occurrence as each day is constantly filled with information that is used throughout the course of your life. Each day we get stronger and stronger in whatever we decide to put our minds to, weather that be academics, sports, our jobs we are constantly learning and growing on a daily basis. This semester I have grown in English as I personally felt that through the English 102 course I have been able to grasp some key concepts and writing techniques that will better me for the future. In this class there was a list of goals and outcomes that the instructor felt would be achievable and the best way to learn throughout the course. In each goal throughout this process I feel like I have improved to some degree but there is other things that I do need to touch up on a bit more to further my writing education outside the classroom.
The standards for the past two weeks that we have been learning in honors English are reading, writing, speaking/language, and grammar. Reading has to do with the socratic seminars and reading the books and taking short quizzes that we had been doing in class. Also there is writing where we have written many essays, these essays that we have been doing have been difficult for me but I have been improving. To add on to these stands there is a speaking/listening which talks about being able to show information that you found and presenting it to your classmates in a clear way.Lastly there is a language grade which talks about your grammar and in your essays. Grammar help your essay run more fluently and makes it sound better.
As a student, I have learned many different skills that I will take with me throughout my journey from this course. We have traversed many different types of writing styles, which any college student, or any person for that
I took English 2 Semester 1 my sophomore year of Highschool. I took the challenge to take English 2 honors that year. I was nervous to take that class knowing i had to be hardworking. i did work hard that semester. I would always complete my work, my quiz scores were high. My grade for the whole semster was at a stable B. I can say I was a good student. It was one day, towards the end of the semester that the class was assigned an essay. I was able to complete the essay, i followed what the directions asked us to do.I answered the prompt with no problem. When I checked infinite campus, I had seen that I received a zero on the assignment. The essay category is a high percentage grade. That essay was the only assignment going into that category. The reason i did not receive a passing grade in my English 2 semester 1 class and am now taking summer
When I first entered this class, I already knew that it wasn’t going to be easy just because I 'm not good with putting things into words and explaining myself with proper grammar. I can honestly say English 101 has really inspired me to be a better writer. This class affected me in a lot of ways it showed me that writing takes time and you can 't expect a paper to be great without any revising or editing. That has always been a mistake of mine, I would tend to free write a lot it seemed to be the only way I could get my thoughts processed on a paper. I would forget periods, commas and misspell words without even noticing. I never cared much for punctuation, but once I got into this class I knew it was much needed. The topics we wrote on were not just any random topics which in a way made it more interesting to write about things that are actually important and things our generation should be informed about.
In “Expectations for College Writing,” the author highlights general expectations of academic writing in the United States and presents advice to aid students’ performance in social and academic writing. The author warns his readers about employers’ and instructors’ expectations regarding students’ writing capabilities. In addition, the author provides recommendations to enhance their necessary skills. According to the author, to effectively convey messages students have to write with authority, understand their audience, and organize their ideas.
Reflecting upon my experience of taking English Composition I, I have realized that the course is an excellent choice for high school seniors, such as myself, who wish to take an extra step towards success in college. During this course, I have learned many writing skills that will be beneficial for me throughout the rest of my college career. I have met my personal goals for this class to maintain an "A" average and gain college credit. Throughout this course, I have learned the fundamentals of properly writing essays, such as an ad analysis, a comparative analysis, a narrative, and an argumentative essay.
This semester in English 102, the curriculum requires students to adapt their writing to the college level. This level of writing is necessary to create a backbone for students as they progress and grow their writing skills in higher level classes. The course’s primary focus throughout the semester was the adapting of rhetoric strategies into papers as well as writing a comparison, a position paper, critical analysis, and finally a visual argument paper. These papers -though all very different in style- help establish the basic guidelines of writing papers for not only this class but for future English and other classes. Even though I am a Management Information Systems major and writing is not a part of the curriculum, being able to write clear and coherent pieces are necessary for a developing a strong writing style whether it be for resumes or professional works. From early on, I knew English would be my kryptonite. I was never interested in the subject and the books assigned along with the endless research papers made me resent the “boring” subject even more. It seemed as though many of my teachers in the past did not care for our feelings towards the material we covered or how we grew as readers and writers. We had no say in what we wanted to do or what we wanted to get out of the class. I understand that we had standards and certain things we needed to cover by the end of the year, but it would have been helpful if the teachers cared about what we wanted to learn, not only about reading and writing, but about ourselves as well. When I reflect back to the beginning of this semester I am astonished at how much I have learned. English 124 has been a real eye opener for me. Not only have I grown as a writer, but it has challenged me to become more of a critical thinker. In the class we have read many articles on diverse topics, studied theories of history’s greatest philosophers of education, and wrote various styles of papers.
After reading the syllabus and attending the first English class, I thought I would pass the class with flying colors. The expectations and mission of the class seemed achievable and I wasn't worried about the rigor because of how approachable and flexible the professors are and the tutors available in the Academic Success Center. English 1303 definitely met the expectations and correlated with promoting growth in writing. With each assignment, every student learned how to incorporate lessons from class in their writing.

In high school, English was my strongest and favorite subject. I never had to work as hard in English as I did in math or any other subjects I took in high school. My peers would cram all night for a Literature test we were going to have but not I. I excelled in writing essays about Moby Dick and his white Whale or Beowulf and Grendel. My confidence in my ability to write was always high and when I enrolled at Chattahoochee, I assumed my confidence would not waiver. When I received my grade for my first paper, I was in shock of all the red ink that covered it. English 1101 taught me the skills I needed to have to be able to write a great paper and prepared me for what was to come for English 1102. English 1102 have taught me to rethink my abilities as a writer and to work harder and spend more time on my essays and think outside the box.
