Implementing the IOM Report: Future of Nursing
Institute of medicine (IOM) has produced several important guidelines and recommendations for the entire U.S. healthcare industry since its establishment. The main objectives of IOM are to empower the care delivery system, nursing division for future generation of care, and advocacy to the patient with low income/ disability. Robert wood Johnson foundation (RWJF) and IOM merged together in 2010 to further advance the nursing workforce and prepare the care delivery system and care delivery process for future generation. The report encourages all nursing care personnel to peruse higher degree in nursing and participate in life learning process. “Nurses receiving seamless education, higher degrees and preparedness to function in varied settings and permitting them to work to the full extent of their education and training would make the healthcare more accessible, cost-effective and of superior quality” (IOM, 2010). The joint report published by IOM and RWJF encourages all care providers to integrate innovative care delivery system, modern medical technologies to aid care delivery process, and use evidence based data gathering and monitoring approach during the care giving process thus a detailed patient’s care related data can be captured, which later can ignite advanced concept for future evidence based nursing …show more content…

The report also encourages all care provider to support their working nursing personnel with associate degree in nursing (ADN) to go for their bachelor degree in nursing (BSN). “To achieve the aforesaid aim they successfully organized both state and national level Campaign for Action through forming action-coalitions of different groups like nurses, clients, educators, business leaders, consumers, other health leaders etc.” (RWJF, 2013). RWJF and IOM together developed an education health promotion module to encourage all care personnel to focus on community-based illness rather than focusing on acute care.
