Presentation Topic: GIS in Social Media
Introduction: since we all know about social media, I am going to talk about the importance of having a GIS in social media.
Content: Importance of GIS in Social Media
1) It helps in saving lives of people from disasters
GIS helps in saving lives of people from various disasters such as earthquake, volcano and flood.
• For example the 2011 earthquake of the Pacific coast of Tohoku (Japan) registered a 9.0 on the Richter scale and killed more than 15,000 people. According to the research it was said that it could have killed more people but with the help of GIS technology it helped to find the victims. During that time application such as ‘Google People Finder’ which uses GIS, were used by individual to track down their loved ones. This is how GIS took part in saving lives from disasters.

As soon as we opened our Facebook, there was a notification popping up at the top of our home page. This is also with the help of GIS to track down the location and find people whether they are safe or not especially those people who were nearby the affected zone. This helps us to know whether our friend or a family is safe or not. (Figure 1)
2) It helps in development of economic benefit
• Locating the most populated area with help of GIS in order to find more costumers.
• Advertising about the business on Facebook and Twitter which will help companies to build better teams that can solve problems faster and can share information faster and better among the employees, partners and also the consumers/ customers.
• This way it will benefit in sales and marketing.
3) Weather forecasting
• GIS is used in weather forecasting and shared among people with help of social
Gilbert Castle has noted that real estate is essentially a game of information arbitrage. The likely winner of the game is the person that takes advantage of computerized analyses. Castle explains that GIS is an attention-getting way of showing what you know.(n1) Of course, larger data sets are used for GIS analysis, not just the minimum "three comps."
...l estate industry. From the decision to lend money for the construction of a new skyscraper in Chicago, to the choice between the corners of a highway intersection for a new gas station, GIS plays a crucial role in allowing the key participants to make more informed decisions. Judging from the incorporation of GIS applications by today’s real estate companies, the importance of this tool will only continue to expand.
...regarded GPS – an indispensable part of GIS. Discussions on cartographic principles, commercial GIS software programs, satellite images, aerial photos, and geodatabases are some of the other conspicuous omissions in this book. There is an inconsistency in the depth of topics explored; for example map projections are explored in great depth, while vector topology is merely glossed over. These omissions and inconsistencies would in my opinion make this book marginally less beneficial to all the three audiences together. However, there is something for all them; structure for engineers, equations for engineers and students, and GIS concepts for students, engineers and users. This book will therefore be undeniably valuable if used to complement the material in some of the other fundamental GIS books in the discipline. It has merits, but there is room for improvement.
Geographers plan new communities, decide where new highways should be placed, and establish evacuation plans. Computerized mapping and data analysis is known as Geographic Information Systems (GIS), a new frontier in geography. Spatial data is gathered on a variety of subjects and input onto a computer. GIS users can create an infinite number of maps by requesting portions of the data to plot.
Predictive analytics can run simulations to determine the outcomes of upgraded structures and planning. Flood mapping and geographic statistics systems can help in floodplain and insurance planning. During the preparedness phase, technologies enables numerous features of planned emergency drills to be automated, increasing the speed at which they can be run and decreasing the number of resources needed to complete an effective drill. Add to that, software and other technologies that will be able to assist in managing the planning and response, which would enable a faster assessment of current capabilities. In the response phase, I would take an educated guess and say the analytics we currently have will greatly improve which will assist in predicting the outcome for choosing the best response. Finally, technologies could bring about a more refined systems for evaluating the success of a response and forecasting the long-term recovery plan years

GIS is an emerging method of data storage and interpretation. GIS is, simply put a database. It is many tables of data organized by one common denominator, location. The data in a GIS system is organized spatially, or by its physical location on the base map. The information that is stored in the database is the location and attributes that exist in that base map, such as streets, highways, water lines, sewers, manholes, properties, and buildings, etc. each of these items don’t just exist in the database, the attributes associated with the item is also stored. A good example of this would be a specific sewer line, from and arbitrary point A to a point B. Ideally, the sewer line would be represented graphically, with a line connecting the two points or something of the like. When one retrieves the information for that line in particular, the attribute data would be shown. This data would include the size of pipe, the pipe material, the upper invert elevation, the downstream invert elevation, the date installed, and any problem history associated with that line. This is the very gist of what a GIS system is.
Geography science is one of the most important sciences in the world which related to many elements include people, animals, plants, water, air and connections between all of these elements. As a result, GIS is one of the branches of geographic science. It is very important to know that GIS plays a valuable role in solve many issues which need to recover such as health care, transportation, demographic factors, natural disasters and forest fires as well.
The revolution in information and communication technologies has been changing not only the daily lives of people but also the interactions between governments and citizens. The digital government or electronic government (e-government) has started as a new form of public organization that supports and redefines the existing and new information, communication and transaction-related interactions with stakeholders (e.g., citizens and businesses), especially through the Internet and Web technologies, with the purpose of improving government performance and processes (Bekkers & Hornsburg, 2005). Social media has become a central part of how people interact with friends, colleagues and communities.
Sometimes the best way to see if your business needs help with social media is to get your hands dirty with a social media evaluation. Although you might not be a social media expert.yet, you can still use these questions to see how to improve your presence. 1) See what social media channels your business is already on. Every business, even B2b, should have Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn. These are the most popular social networks and having a presence on these channels is necessary for your business reputation.
Social media avenues are a new, upcoming, and popular way to advertise for businesses and for people to connect to each other. Alexis Ohanian once said that "Being effective at social media, whether for business or personal use, means capturing people who have short attention spans. They 're only a click away from a picture of a funny cat, so you have to make your thing more compelling than that cat. And that can be a high bar." (Ohanian) Powerful usage of social media can have a big impact.
There are different types and causes of disasters; man-made, natural and a combination. Man-made disasters are caused by human error or human actions that cause harm to the environment, and people (Baack & Alfred, 2013). Natural disasters are caused by nature a hurricane for example; and a combination; NA-TECH (natural-technological) examples are earthquakes that cause structural damage such as a collapse of a bridge (Nies & McEwen, 2011). Communities must have effective emergency preparedness in place to reduce the causalities from a disaster.
Today 's generation is all about social media. It is the new way to have instant connection to thousands all over the world. Today 's company are now doing less traditional television, radio, and print advertisement and more promotion via Twitter, Facebook and/or Instagram. Companies are invested in getting famous people to post pictures or tweet about their products, knowing that, one person can connect with millions with just one post. Over half of the world has access to social media, making them great consumers. Social media benefit marketing by giving the companies the opportunity to learn their audience/consumers, having access to instant feedback and bring awareness to here product.
Secondly, the social media has made it easier for businesses and business people such as bankers, business owners, brands, and even celebrities to communicate faster and to get things accomplished. Through social media interaction networks such as Twitter, Instagram, What...
