Nowadays, most women remain unaware that their employers underpay them. Women cannot argue for higher wages if they do not know they earn less than their male equivalents. Each employee sharing their salary will allow women to detect if they are earning less than their male colleagues with little difficulty. This will give women the tools needed to argue for a higher pay rate, and will help lower the wage gap. If a female worker goes to her boss with statistical evidence that she earns less than her male associates, the chances that her boss will award her a higher salary significantly increase.
The pay for women who do the same amount of work annually as men is thousands of dollars less. This is an issue that I feel strongly about because I have a lot of women in my family that I believe should be given the same respect and appreciation for their hard work. I think it is because men see that women have changed over the years. They see that women do just as much work as they do. But they do not believe that they should get equal pay.
Another point that was not made is how wages increase in the amount of time a person is working at a place. O’Neill claims that “women continue to be much more likely than men to work part-time” (O’Neill, 2003, p. 311). Many jobs give raises as a person stays within a company. Seniority level workers will then have to work less hours while keeping a secure paycheck. Even in minimum wage jobs, pay will increase overtime as a person becomes efficient and work steadily.
As a result, gender diversity is reduced. To promote gender diversity, Income should be equal regardless of gender. Because women have been employed in the workforce for many years, they should be treated as equals to men. During the initial stage of employing women, women were paid unequally in comparison to men because women were thought to have a primary source of money, usually coming from the husband of the woman By having women work, a secondary amount of money would be made. The pattern of unequal pay among the different gender groups still continues throughout the years as major businesses still pay women unequally.
To close the wage gap is to close a lot of other gender gaps that do exist and lead to gender differences in earnings. Such gender gaps include men working longer hours compared to women, men disproportionately choose higher-risk, higher paying occupations with greater safety risks for occupational injuries and fatalities, and men are less likely to be absent from work as compared to women for things such as doctor’s visits or to take care of the children.If women were truly paid less than men then why don't they make up most of the workforce since they are cheaper than men to employ. If they were paid less, that would create an “investment” opportunity that smart people would exploit. They would form firms comprised of underpaid women and shut down other firms with over-paid
At the end of it all we cannot fix what we do not know. Wage discrimination practices need to be address quickly. Female workers who are victims of wage discrimination have less disposal income, so they spend and save much less than their male counterparts, which in turns affects the economy. Meanwhile employers profit marginal have continued increasing steady over the years, so employers are legally robbing us all directly or indirectly and there is not much been done about it according to the current data on the wage gap between male and female workers.
I understand that the lack of women taking a role as a leader in a company does not apply as a good example speaking that it is gender inequality but based on the ability of the person of taking the job. But on the other hand, there is no reason that could explain why women are getting less pay than men when they both are working for the same job.Which also mean that there is no rejection stating that there is gender inequality when it comes together speaking of the wage gap between men and women. Restating the argument that was made earlier, women earn 77 percent of what men earn for the same job. In this case, it explains that gender inequality is still occurring around us. It clearly demonstrates that men and women are getting treated differently.
Does the workplace in the modern era still have a Gender Pay Gap? We as Americans have been trying for years to make sure everyone have equal rights while being in the U.S. In the U.S we are focused on the pay rate of jobs because money makes life easier. So when we discuss the pay rate in the U.S. we seem to overlook the pay between men and women. Both genders that have the same experience along with schooling still seem to have a discrepancy in their pay.
Relative to Stats Canada, this means that for every dollar that a full-time male worker earns, a full-time woman worker will earn approximately 26 percent less. Ouch? Not quite. You see, this definition does not hold education, work experience and other skills constant; it just takes the aggregate average of salaries earned by men, and puts them against salaries earned by women. Though not an accurate representation of the actual gender wage gap, this is still indicative of regressive societal gender roles.
Also because the women look a certain way, the employers of the big companies use that to calculate how much they get paid, whether they are a full-time worker, part-time worker, or temporary worker, no matter what they are still being paid less than the men.
