Culture at its core is the collection of experiences that manifest into a joint human intellectual conscience. A collective conscience, what is right or wrong, is a concept that serves as the foundation that shows us that culture has a direct impact in creating social norms, roles, and values within our society. However, with the use of Macrosociology it is clear that many cultures have developed throughout human history that has distinctive similarities but also drastic differences from our own. American, Middle Eastern, and Chinese cultures serve as great outlets to demonstrate our cultural discrepancies. Using concrete examples from these separate cultures an educated guess can be made to reveal how an identical twin raised in another culture
While other cultures use religion and law hand and hand America was founded on the ideal that the two institutions should remain separate. John Dickinson stated, “Religion and Government are certainly very different Things, instituted for different Ends; the design of one being to promote our temporal Happiness; the design of the other to procure the Favour of God, and thereby the Salvation of our Souls. While these are kept distinct and apart, the Peace and welfare of Society is preserved, and the Ends of both are answered. By mixing them together, feuds, animosities and persecutions have been raised, which have deluged the World in Blood, and disgraced human Nature.” (60-1). With this separation it can be difficult to determine what exactly influences our culture today. Many believe that with the rise of pop culture and mass media it has become the largest contributing factor to cultural influence within America. Polls show that a majority of Americans have “a positive view of US culture. In the January 2004 PIPA poll, 55% said they had a favorable view of "American popular culture, such as music, television, and films””. (“Evaluation of American Culture.” n.d.). This statistic shows that in the 20th century that over half the population of America is in love with pop culture and could possibly argue that for some it is the American religion. With these major differences and the use of sociological imagination it is easy to determine just how polar opposite identical twins of different cultures would
