Black Voices Matter A common phrase that I like is, “If you do not stand for something then you will fall for anything.” That phrase defines the reasons and motives of the Black Lives Matter Protest. The black community is choosing to stand for something, serving as a voice, explaining to the world that black lives matter as much as anyone else’s life. I am proud that they are choosing to do this because I believe the Black Lives Matter movement brings positivity and unity to the black community which is just what America needs. The Black Lives Matter Movement informs us about all the latest events that are taking place and shows how black people around the world are being treated. After the Trayvon Martin incident my mother informed me that perhaps it would be wiser if I stayed in the house more. I am sure that other mothers urged their children to do the same because no mother wanted to feel the pain that Sybrina Fulton, the mother of Trayvon Martin, was forced to endure knowing her child was dead. David Bredrick states, “How can we forget that America codified in the Constitution the notion that a black life was only considered to be three fifths of a white life?”. Knowing this and being a black male or female can haunt the mind, followed by a constant feeling of being unwanted in this country. Now living in the past is something that I am not in favor of, but forgetting the past is something that I am not in favor of either. America would rather forget the four hundred years of slavery black people went through and the years of discrimination and torture that has happened. Since America stands for this big thing on unity they would only like to hear about that instead of racism. That is why the Black Lives Matter movement is necessary, it brings a sense of awareness that racism is still alive.
