I don’t think professionalism is a difficult thing to define, yet it means something different for everyone. There are a few expectancies that come with the expectation of professionalism itself that are pretty much universal. These expectations are along the lines of; be on time, be courteous, don’t make a fool of yourself or others, be the representative of yourself and those you work for that you can, and other sort of “common sense” rules. So in the smallest nutshell, professionalism is remembering and respecting the expectation set of you to be courteous. So that’s pretty much the basics of acting like a professional, so what other rules could professionalism entail? Well this varies on a case-by-case basis. Success has very different meanings to each and every single individual. Yet your professionalism will play a vital part in it no matter what you consider to be success. A large part of professionalism I did not discuss previously is consistency. Some may think “Ah well what if I consider success to be painting in my room, alone, all hours of the day, and then selling those paintings online so I can make enough to never have to interact with another person?” Well sure, if that really is what you want. But you still need to follow the steps of professionalism to reach that goal. If you’re selling something, you need a targeted audience. If you have a targeted audience, you have to respect their desires and not tick them off or you’ll lose them. That’s
One of the first steps in of professionalism is dress; I make sure I am always dressed both professionally and comfortably for our classroom setting. For example if I know we are going to the Playscape, I wear either closed toed tennis or water shoes so I can get down and dirty and interacting with the children, really exploring the landscape. If I am wearing a dress I am conscious of how I sit or even go at step further and wear leggings underneath just so I don’t have to be worried. Another aspect of professionalism in the classroom is language. I always use appropriate language when speaking to the children, parents and my coworkers. Confidentiality is also a part of professionalism. Whenever I am taking notes or speaking of a child I am sure to keep it a confidential, I do not use names and am sure to only keep the information between the teaching team and I.
There are many attributes that contribute to being professional. The many that stick out in my mind are responsibility and accountability, leadership, honor and integrity, respect, and caring compassion and communication. All of these attributes pertain to the professional work environment in the own important way. When you are a professional you need to have responsibility and accountability. This means you have to demonstrate awareness of your own limitations, and identify developmental needs and approaches for improvements. You care for yourself appropriately and you present yourself in an appropriate manner (demeanor, dress, and hygiene). You recognize and report errors and poor behavior in peers. You have to take responsibility for appropriate share o...
Professionalism is defined as one's conduct at work. The quality of professionalism is not restricted to those in occupations with high level of education or high earnings. Any worker regardless of their level of education or occupation should demonstrate a high level of this trait (About.com, 2013). You can have both personal and professional success. Your goals help determine what type of success you have. People sometimes only have one or the other because if you are only looking for money, you will probably only have professional success and not personal. If you are looking to have people look up to you and actually appreciate you then you have personal success. It's not hard to have both but during work people tend to forget what they work for and I want to have both. I want people to want to be like me and I want them to admire me at the same time.
Working in health care is an important job. People put their trust in us to do our very best to provide them with the absolute best care. Being entrusted with such responsibility requires nurses to conduct themselves both professionally and ethically. Nurses must adhere to the professional values of human dignity, integrity, autonomy, altruism, and social justice. It is these five values that guide us in our practice and as nurses we must promote and emulate these values. They play an important role in the quality of treatment and success of an organization and help us determine right from wrong.

There are several different types success, personal success is to be able to enjoy life in a way that person decides, and to not let others choose how they live their life. This quote by Christopher Morley describes what is really meant by personal success. Personal success has to do with being happy with one’s self. One can only be truly happy if they are happy and secure with themselves. Personal success is a quality that a person has when they are happy with who they are and is not being afraid of what others think of them. It is about not letting others dictate the way others chooses to life or make someone feel that they have to change what they are as a person. It is about gaining self-confidence and maintaining it. It is about being able to draw strength, and not needing affirmation from anyone. It is about being able to stay happy, even on the days when the phone doesn 't ring. Personal success is also about others setting goals for themselves and reaching them through hard work, dedication and sacrifice.
