The Machiavellian thought is a tyrannical doctrine of leadership of the sixteenth century. It is however a misplaced school of thought as it contradicts the initial thoughts of Machiavelli. There is need to evaluate the works of Machiavelli in order to determine whether he complied with the callous Machiavellian image depicted in the prince. Since he had been brought up in the realms of power in Florence, Machiavelli was bound to give his thoughts and opinion concerning political power. His most famous work, The Prince is however, a contradiction to the life that Niccolo Machiavelli led. It is this work of 1513 that convinces the world of the Machiavellian philosophy which even the author came to neglect afterwards. Even before the prince, Machiavelli was known for his republican thoughts and the coming up of his work in 1513 was the presentation of a very different persona. Several scholars suggested that Machiavelli must have reconsidered after the Medici rule and decided to write about his newly acquired republican ideas when the Machiavellian way proved to be wrong. Others argued that the man was simply an author who presented his works in style by using satire. Altogether, the works Machiavelli wrote afterwards proved that he was a different kind of man from the Machiavellian thought. The circumstances that led to his writing this book explain partly why the work is so. In his work ‘Discourses of Livy,’ Machiavelli states clearly that democracies or governments that engage the people are superior compared to those led by kings and princes. He goes on to emphasize that an individual leader whether king or prince does not benefit by being hated among his people. Such sentiments are too strongly against the Machiavellian way to define the man who states otherwise in every other situation.
