Introduction Looking at a simple definition of each terminology, then we will know each force behind all leadership theories. To better understand the fundamental principles preceding leadership philosophy, we have to understand the theory of leadership development and its essential characteristics. Hence, some of the leadership theories are explained in this paper. Leadership is a process whereby individual influences a group of individuals to achieve a common goal (Northouse, 2013, p. 5). There were quite many relations made between my service learning experiences and themes addressed in the course. Some of the connections were about human self-respect, unity, and fairness. The social ties hold people together and can support the people who do not have the power to help each other. It was interesting for me to employ my skills and knowledge I learned in the classroom to serve those who need help. Another important concept I practiced during my service learning was active listening to young kids. The concept of transformational leadership relies on appropriate leadership approaches for mission success. AFDD 1-1 describes three leadership competencies: person, people/team, organization Effective leaders (tactical level) need to build face-to-face and interpersonal relationships that directly influence behavior and values. Effective leaders (operational level) need to build team dynamics for small groups and squadrons. Effective leaders (strategic level) need to build strategy and provide direction in a broad spectrum.
My impression of leadership is the ability to motivate, inspire, set a visualization, connect, and lead by example. To become a successful leader you have to be able to convince your followers that you are trustworthy of being followed. During this semester, we have learned many, if not all of the major leadership theories and how they play a role in our everyday lives. But personally, a few of these leadership models caught me and intrigued me the whole semester so much that this paper is going to predominately be referenced about them. For example, the proposed framework that organizes leadership theories based on each theory 's focus and approach. Focus is referred to as whether or not leadership is viewed as a set of traits or actions.
According to Business Dictionary.com, leadership is defined as the individuals who are the leaders in an organization, regarded collectively. It also can be define as the activity of leading a group of people or an organization or the ability to do this. Leadership involves the establishing of a clear vision, sharing the vision with other so that they will follow willingly, providing the needed information, knowledge, and methods to realize the vision and coordinating and balancing the conflicts interests of all members and stakeholders.
The combination of class and service learning provided a solid foundation on which to be a morally responsible leader. During class, all sorts of ideas are brought up and discussed as a group and critically analyzing from different perspectives and relating it to other ideas. This enables the students rectify their own beliefs and morals in constructive ways. From these developments, we begin to see how it fits in the world and try to apply ourselves and gain wisdom. Gaining knowledge, experience and wisdom, it becomes our understanding to find good in any aspect of our lives and work towards advancing that good in a way that benefits all.
For Christian Service Learning I volunteered at Salvation Army Ingle Farm. Salvation Army is non-profitable organisation that helps people around the world because it’s a part of the Christian Church. Moreover, during the CSL I had to help sell second hand equipment’s such as clothes, toys, and books. On the first day I was given the duty of cleaning up the store to make it look spotless. On the second day I was given the role of putting price tags onto the equipment’s that did not have one. On the third day I was given the responsibility of helping customers with their need and on the final day I was in charge of helping a new volunteers with their duties.
According to Yoder-Wise (2015), a leader can be defined as, “an individual who works with others to develop a clear vision of the preferred future and to make that vision happen” (p 35). As employees, we often have our own ideal of a good leader, which may be influenced by experiences and perception of workplace norms. While one’s opinion of an effective leader may vary, there are several recognized leadership theories. The following will focus on the transformational leadership approach.
Introduction Leadership is a commodity that is highly valued and highly desired. It can be described both as a trait and as a process. As a trait it has been viewed as a property or a set of possessed character traits by various people at varying levels, limiting leadership to those who are trusted to have unique talents that are inherent and natural. The process context views leadership as a phenomenon that provides a relationship linking leaders and followers availing leadership to everyone (Northouse, 2010). Leadership process has many complexities that have gained attention of researchers, resulting in different theories that try to explain complexities associated with leadership.
Transformational leadership is one of the most popular leadership styles. According to Kendrick (2011), “Transformational leadership involves four factors: 1. idealized influence, 2. inspirational motivation, 3. intellectual stimulation, and 4. individual consideration.” These four factors make transformational leadership have an impact on followers. The goal of transformational leadership is to cause a positive change in individuals, help motivate them, and develop a leader within each individual.

There are lots of definitions and interpretations for the term LEADERSHIP. One is “A relationship through which one person influences the behaviour or actions of other people” (Mullins, L.J. 2002, Management and Organisational Behaviour, 6th Edition, FT Publishing, p904). Another popular definition would be, “the process of influencing an organization or groups within an organization in its efforts towards achieving a goal” (Johnson, Scholes & Whittington, 2005, Exploring Corporate Strategy, 7th Edition, FT Prentice Hall, p.519)
Service is defined as giving up your personal time to help those who are struggling and in need. For this extra credit assignment we were asked to do an act of service that involves interacting with people, and making connections with them. For my act of kindness I chose to do something with my service project crew that involves serving families food, providing shelter for them, and bonding with them afterwards. I participated in this with my Appalachian Service Project crew where we are able to bond with each other, and help those in need. This experience changed my outlook on how I view our society today, and it gave me a closer relationship with God.
In this manner they are clear about what roles they are expected to play. After that the leaders help followers in achieving those goals by making the clear path. The leader has also made it clear to all the stakeholders about the goal of the organization and the made a clear path to achieve that goal. Thus, Path –Goal leadership model comprises four elements basically. These elements are employee contingencies, environmental contingencies, leader behaviors and leader effectiveness (As shown in Figure 4).

It is therefore defined as a process whereby a leader influences a group of individuals to achieve a common goal (Northouse, 2013). A leader has to make a decision for something to happen and provide his followers with clear direction (Rost et al, 1991). It will evoke feelings of challenge, excitement and involvement for the followers to proceed with the task (Gill, 2006).
Leadership is defined as a process by which an individual influences others to obtain goals. There are three aspects that should be addressed when explaining leadership. One aspect is that leadership is a social influence process; leadership could not exist without a leader and one or more followers. Another leadership aspect is compliance; all of the leader’s directions must be complied with voluntarily. Compliance is what separates leadership from other influence-based formal authority.
