Abstract
The purpose of this research was to address specific topics regarding a career in electrical engineering. Some of the topics that will be covered are licensing, professional society history, labor statistics, and additional requirements. Although there is no federal requirement for licensing to be an electrical engineer, most states have requirements (Joyner). The professional society for electrical engineers is ISEE which stands for IAENG Society of Electrical Engineering (IAENG, n.d.) Even though electrical engineers had a 2012 median pay of $89,630, the growth outlook for the next six years is only 4%, which is less than the average (Bureau of …show more content…

For instance, electrical engineering has only been around for almost 130 years. (Columbia University, n.d.). With the advancing of technology at such an extreme rate, the argument about what engineering degree is better or more important is growing with it. This paper intends to explore the roles of electrical engineers, discuss the professional society of electrical engineering, and research the labor statistics associated with electrical engineering. The book definition of engineering is “the application of science and mathematics by which the properties of matter and the sources of energy in nature are made useful to people” ("Engineering", n.d.). Although the book definition makes sense, it doesn’t explain the how in the definition. For instance, WhatisEngineering.com explains engineering as a way to solve real world problems to improve the world using math and science (What is Engineering, n.d.). Electrical engineers do the above task with the fields of electricity and electromagnetism. Many of the careers in electrical engineering focus around power generation and distribution. Electrical Engineers may be in R&D to find new ways to use power to improve products, or they could be installing electrical components in products to insure specifications are met (Bureau of Labor Statistics, 2014). Either way engineers go, they almost always consult with other engineers to get the job done (Bureau of Labor Statistics, 2014). Although there are a lot of jobs available for electrical engineers, many positions are left open due to high standards in qualification
