One of the most important topics or factors in any group/team is decision making. The decision-making process will have a direct impact on the outcome of a project, the way a team works operates, and so much more. This is usually not an easy process, because decisions that need to be made are often complex, and have multiple factors involved. When making decisions, it is best to try to make the most informed decision possible, as we all know the risks of going blind into a decision or situation. This is such a vital component of decision making as a whole, as both concepts correlate strongly with one another. A lot of times a decision must be made because a problem exists. In order to decide on something, it may be required to tackle that problem and determine how it can be fixed. Problems will lead to decisions, therefore effective problem solving will help promote helpful decisions being made. When a team must work together to solve a problem, it can be very helpful to understand how people typically face conflict. Different people may have their own unique ways to solve issues, and this can be used to the team’s advantage when working together. Certain problems may be viewed as overwhelming to one person, but the other may feel confident in a good fix for it. This can be due to clashing personalities, new people working together, power differentials, or one member trying to push their ideas on everybody else. That type of environment/situation can certainly lead to poor decision making, so that is an issue that calls for intervention. Groupthink, which is known as a faulty decision making process, can cause issues as well. Employees with an organization such as Mike’s may run into this because a lot of the people are close and familiar with one of another. If the team is extremely cohesive, it can be possible for groupthink to happen, and poor decisions to be made.
