HABIT 1-----BE PROACTIVE: That’s almost self explanatory. It means you are in charge of yourself and actions. I’m in charge of me. It means you are taking initiative. You mastered yourself to a certain degree and proactive to choose your response in your path to excellence. Take responsibilities for your excellence. HABIT 2-----BEGIN WITH THE END IN MIND: The end is really your goal----academic excellence. Effectiveness is not just a matter of reaching any goal, but rather of achieving the right goal in bits or blocks. Your continuous assessments, assignments, and class works are the tools for such measurement. An academic test (or exams) remains one of the most effective, reliable and engaging tools through which academic results can be measured and graded. It is trying to understand where your grades are presently. On the scale of 0---100% where do you fall? Not what your scores supposed to be or what your scores should be, but what your scores are right now. Then trying to understand what kind of scores or grades you want in the next test or examination. The kind of grades you earn now, the kind of grades you want in order to become a high-flyer and the possibility of becoming one can only be accessed through GOAL SETTING. When you set goals, evaluate progress (through testing, e.g. the PQRST reading style), examine results and diagnose academic problems or roadblocks, you are measuring academic progress. It is the first step that leads to taking responsibility of your academic progress and eventually the measures (setting goals) to be taken for improvement. Someone said, if you can’t measure something, you can’t understand it . if you can’t understand it, you can’t control it. If you can’t control it, you can’t improve it. How will you know your loophole? How will you make good use of your God given ability without measuring your performance? Where would your school be during the inter-school (or inter-house) sporting competition without knowing the score of the game? How would the winner emerge? The answer is the fifteenth guidepost—which reads: SET GOALS! GOALS are the measurement by which reality finds its way to our dreams. Goal setting is a life skill that determines results. Life skills are everything needed for a good life. A goal is something you plan to get, to do or to become. A good goal setting must be SMART: S=Specific and Strategic; M=Measurable; A=Attainable and Achievable;
