On September 11, 2001 our nation sat and watched in fear as unknown terrorists attacked American people on our own land. I remember that day like it was yesterday. I was sitting in class, bored out of my mind. Somebody outside the classroom yelled, “Turn on the television”! My teacher quickly turned on the television. I noticed that the south tower was on fire. Gasps and stifled cries ran through the room. A few 'oh my god's were said, as we ran out to find and tell friends. I was late to my marketing class. Walking in, with tears streaming down my face, I was the one who told my marketing class what had happened. We turned on the television, sat, and listened. We listened as the other plane hit. A man was interviewing a woman on the radio, right near the towers. Suddenly, a rumble was heard and we could hear her scream 'oh my god, we're going to die.' That was when the first tower completely fell to the ground. I finally realized that something atrocious was happening. I sat there in my desk in shock and terror. I began to feel a knot in my throat getting tighter and tighter. People were dying! That whole day I worried about my friend, Roey, a chef in a restaurant in the Twin Towers. I was going crazy. This just couldn’t be happening. I just sat there in disbelief. I thought for sure he was dead. Every single channel, every single radio station said the same thing: America will never be the same again. And it's true. Nothing and no one will ever think or act the same as the did prior to 8:30am on September 11th. The television repeatedly showed the buildings plunging to the ground. I felt extreme sorrow for the families of those who didn’t make it out alive. What did the United States do or not do that resulted in the loss of so many innocent American lives to be taken away? These victims did not do anything wrong. All of these American citizens that are now deceased were expected to return home that night. American citizens are grief stricken, left in fear, and full of revenge to the people who committed such an awful thing.
celebrate on the day of the tragedy on September 11, 2001? How do people remember that day? How do people born on that day react to it in the future? Up until September 11 it has been the deadliest terrorist attack on American soil. Some people could say different that this had been the deadliest terrorist attack on American soil, but some may agree it had been the most deadliest terrorist attack on American soil. The deadliest event that happened before 9/11 is when, people watched the abduction
and no one cared? What if everyone pretended like they had never even existed? It is important to remember those who are lost in tragic events such as 9/11. The events that took place on September 11, 2001 affected so many people globally in countless ways. From dealing with the loss of a family member, watching the towers fall on T.V. or in New York City or having to get a new job, everyone was affected. How do we as America remember those who were lost? Every person remembers it differently. Whether
September 11th, 2001: The Day that Shocked the World. As the American society grows, with each passing day getting farther from the event that changed the world, we have grown to ignore the events of September 11th. I was only two when September 11th happened, and I have grown up in the society that was shaped by September 11th. The American society has completely changed because of the events on September 11th. Since the September 11th attacks, the US has grown and created new intelligence offices
“American History: Our Hope for the Future” “Part of what makes America strong is our resilience, tenacity, innovation and our willingness to be optimistic about our future.” - Valerie Jarrett. Our ever-evolving country constantly grows and changes as time passes. The history we create determines what the future will hold, and it is our duty as American citizens to ensure we will do our best to better our country. When the people look back a century from now; I hope they are proud of the history that has
Some of us might remember how beautiful it was this day, how blue and clear the sky was. September 11, 2001 is not just a regular day anymore it marks the day terrorists attacked, not only New York but also America. Much like Pearl Harbor this is the day we were taken off guard and the day we struck back and went to war. With everything stripped away from us and no sense of what was going on, a country that was just fine on September 10, 2011 was now broken, on such a beautiful day such terror occurred
Tony Parsons and Mark Hertsgaard The tabloid article was written by Tony Parsons and the broadsheet was written by Mark Hertsgaard. The context of theses articles are the analysis of the September eleventh attacks. The political context is the debate on America's government. This assay is to focus on the comparism and the context of these articles. The target audience for the mirror article are those who want to be amused and want accessible language, this type of newspaper is called
on September 11, 2001 when 4 airplanes were hijacked. Two crashing into the twin towers, one into the Pentagon, and one into a field that was either heading towards the White House or the Capitol. A total of nineteen terrorists from Middle East, who were a part of a terrorist group known as al-Qaeda led by Osama Bin Laden, were involved in this attack. Killing almost 3,000 people and destroying some of America’s most known buildings left Americans hurt, scarred, and afraid. Since September 11, 2001
September 11th, 2001 will forever be etched into American history as one of the worst terrorist attacks against the United States. To memorialize the victims that perished on this day, an official memorial was built in the footprints of the World Trade Centers (WTC). While the goal of this memorial was to be peaceful, some debates have arisen about the memorial. Some believe that they should have something different for the design and others dislike components of the winning design. Even with the
What do You Think About Confederate War Monuments? Confederate monuments and the Confederate flag have a strange relationship with Maryland culture. Because the mason Dixon line runs through my home town many people I know have ancestors who owned slaves and fought in the civil war on both sides. It has become a symbol of southern pride, and pride in a country lifestyle. Often the flag and civil war monuments can be found in small or rural southern towns where people live a simple life. These people
drastically within the last 12 years. When you think about airport security years before, there were barely a security system you had to get through. Today, it’s a completely different story. On September 11, 2001, a terrorist group called al-Qaeda hijacked four U.S. airplanes and used them to crash into monumental buildings on the East Coast. Nearly 3,000 people were killed in this terrorist attack. This attack alerted the world A few months just after 9/11 a man named Richard Reid failed attempted to set
For this book review I read, Towers Falling by Jewell Parker Rhodes. The main character is a young girl named Deja, who narrates the whole story in first person. Life is difficult for Deja and her family, especially since her father is sick and very depressed and the family has been forced to move into a homeless shelter. Deja has to transfer to a new school where she is assigned to work on a project about September 11th that slowly helps her understand how much that day has affected her father’s
crisis). George W Bush is no different. Two events have ruled his time in office and I suspect they will be his legacy. I am of course talking about 9/11 and the resulting war in Iraq. Bush’s presidency has been one of extremes as he has received both the highest and lowest approval ratings since polling began, ranging 90% immediately after the September 11, 2001 attacks, to 28% in June 2008. It is perhaps easy to remember George Bush as a poor orator, someone who finished bottom of his class at Yale
pre-september-11 America is almost a completely different America than the post 9/11 America. This country has changed in almost every way it can: technology, government, traditions, education, and economy. Osama Bin Laden and Al-Qaida caused the cultural transformation in the United States through the terrorist attacks that they planed and executed on September 11, 2001. Before September 11, 2001, America
Comparing a Tabloid and a Broadsheet On September 11th 2002 almost all newspapers around the world wrote articles concerning the attacks on the World Trade Centre, which had occurred in the previous year, and were known to be planned by the infamous Osama bin Laden. I have compared two newspapers written on September 11th a year later. A tabloid paper, and a broadsheet. The tabloid article appeared in "The Daily Mirror" and
The worst terrorist attack in U.S history occurred on September 11, 2001. According to U.S government officials, nineteen men hijacked four fuel-loaded commercial planes with the intent to destroy the World Trade Center in New York City, as well as both the Pentagon and the White House in Washington D.C. The attacks began at 8:46am ET when American Airline’s Flight 11 struck the North tower of the World Trade Center, causing chaos on the streets below. Not even twenty minutes later, another commercial
