What is Happening in 1984?
Throughout part one of 1984 by George Orwell, a lot of major events occurred. Things that have shaped the plot so far have been things such as the different types of people , the lack of privacy, and the slight bit of rebellion that Winston has shown. All in all, the ⅓ of the book that has been read so far is already enough to keep one on their feet and eager to read more. There has been many different personalities that have been shown thus far into the book. Each and every one of those people have contrasted dramatically from one another. First there is Winston. Throughout the book one learns that he is secretly questioning the government, and is aware of what is being done to the society. Then there are characters like Mr. Parsons, who is a unsufisticated, devoted party member(Orwell 55), and Syme, who is a devoted party member, and very intelligent(Orwell 52-54). That consequently can lead to rebellion. Thus far, there has not been any major rebellion that has occurred, but there have been events that have shown the start of rebellion. For example, when Winston went to the secret store (which was not illegal, but can lead to crimes against government) and bought the diary, which would soon lead to him writing thoughts against the government, and another time when he bought the paper weight, in which he later was going to think about murdering the dark haired girl with. Another example is when he went into the notch in his room that was not seen by telescreens, and wrote in his diary “DOWN WITH BIG BROTHER”(Orwell 18).
