What does sports mean to me? Sports plays a role in many lives, but it has played a role in my life since I was young. Sports consumes my life today and my love for sports grows more and more every day. Sports is not life or death for me, but it is a hobby, a stress reliver, a life coach, and a way to connect with family and friends. Sports to me is a lifestyle.
My family watched every Kentucky Basketball game and watched high school basketball a lot when I was young. My entire family would go watch my cousin play basketball and that’s when I can remember being introduced to sports. I started playing basketball when I was four years-old at an Upwards program. For example, in sports and in life there are eight steps that are the same; death, fear, aging, marriage, family, and society. First, lets look at death in relation to life and sports. Death means the action or fact of dying or being killed; the end of the life of a person or organism. Ask yourself what are some ways sports can be related to death. Death in life means the end of that person’s time on Earth and depending on what that person believes in there is an afterlife. A sports injury is a good example of death in sports. It can end an athletes career and force them to think of a life after sports or their afterlife. Retiring from a sport could be considered a death, along with a person’s senior night. If somebody does not get to play college sports and must stop playing after high school, or if somebody does not make it professionally and stops playing after college, all of these could be considered death in sports.
