Have you ever heard the phrase, “It’s not what you know, it’s who you know?” This phrase is the summary of the word, networking. Networking is a word popping up all around the business industry. Nurses are hopping on the train becoming very familiar with it. Networking is defined as, “the exchange of information or services among individuals, groups, or institutions; specifically: the cultivation of productive relationships for employment or business.”
Networking for nurses is not an easy task. Networking is not grown overnight, but at a steady pace. Some individuals are better at networking than others, whether it is because of their personality, confidence or both. Though, learning to network better is an ongoing process.

Those who network find out more from colleagues. They share ideas and build knowledge off one another. Networking with others helps you look at business in different ways. People, especially those who network, want to help each other achieve success, whether that's individually, or as a hospital. There is a saying that “no one ever gets rich without helping others”. Networking is the first step to that.
2. Better nurse job opportunities
Once you get to know the person you are networking with, the door may open for better jobs. Employment opportunities aren’t going to blossom overnight, but if someone likes you, they may want you to work with them. They may refer you to their boss, or even offer you a job on the spot. Take the opportunity to explore your options.
3. Business and nurse confidence
The more you push yourself to network with others, the more confident you will become in your role as a nurse. You can share ideas about what goes well in the department you work in, and what doesn’t go well. Government rules are often changing, and you may gain knowledge of new laws that changed. There are also pieces of technological equipment that may work well in other hospitals that you don’t know
When I am older I would love to be a Nurse Practitioner, I enjoy helping people when they are sick and taking care of them. Another reason I want to be a Nurse Practitioner is because my sister is also a Nurse Practitioner.
Nursing has always been a key career in the health care system. Although it is not often focused on media and stories surrounding health care, nursing is a career of great importance. If any patient was asked about their experience at a hospital or a care center, many would mention the capability and care that they received from the nurses. The health care system could not function efficiently, if at all, if nurses were not present to perform their part. Nurses are more than just physicians, support staff.
A Registered Nurse typically tends to work in a clean and healthy work environment (“Registered Nurses” Campus para. 11). In this career a nurse will have duties such as: recording vital signs, monitors the patient, will have discussions about the patient with physicians, and evaluate test results (“Registered Nurse” para. 3). An RN deals with problems that people have with their health, and keeps track of their patients medical records; however, it is a requirement to have a nursing license (“Registered Nurse” para. 1). Registered Nurses must know certain health issues, certain parts of the body, know a certain group of nurses, and a certain place of work (“Registered Nurses” U.S. para. 11). One important quality to be an RN is to have compassion and to actually care about the patients (“Registered Nurses” U.S. para. 45). Another important quality is to have critical thinking skills, and to be able to remember the changes in the patients health (“Registered Nurses” U.S. para. 44). Commonly registered nurses need to have good speaking skills so they can talk to the patients and figure out ...
Something I have grown to recognize in my experience is there is always room for improvement. I have worked along side with some great nurses and for every great nurse there is another not so great. I truly believe it takes a special person to be a nurse. This is not a profession to enter into lightly. It is acceptable to enter into some career fields for the paycheck, but nursing is not one of them. This field can not be “just a job”. Over the years I have learned many do’s and do not’s. The different aspects of knowing have guided me along the way. A great nurse needs to be able to recognize what is known and what limitations, or unknowing exists. There are a couple aspects of knowing that have tipped the scale a little more than
At work, I am connected with people that are perceived to be important. There have been instances whereby I have utilized networks in efforts to get projects and tasks done. In like manner, I enjoy developing relationships and establishing networks with co-workers.
Nursing and Qualities That I Possess to become a Good Nurse Nursing is the act of safely caring, protecting and improving our clients’/patients’ health and ability without causing any further harm or disability to them. Our primary goal is to restore and maintain good health physically, spiritually and psychologically. It is a science, such that one has to apply the nursing knowledge and technical aspects of practice. However, it is important to incorporate the act of patient-centered care, which is defined according to QSEN/NOF, as holistic care that recognizes the patient as the source of control and full-partner in providing compassionate and coordinated care with respect for the patient’s desire, values, needs and preferences. It has to incorporate with the nurse’s personality, i.e., certain qualities that the individual possess.
As part of an organization one can meet people for networking. By putting in the extra effort to work with and in an organization, it shows a person’s desire to further ones professional growth. Just remember that joining the right professional organization could ultimately provide success for future endeavors.
Although networking was discussed in our co-op class, it was ambiguous and did not really go into the specifics. Since establishing a meaningful relationship with coworkers is essential to receiving potential job offer, it should be more of a main topic for freshmen. Most of whom, do not even know what networking is before their college arrival.
I believe that nursing is a fulfilling career and I wanted to go into a career where I could help other people. Nursing is a career that is under praised and needs to be recognized more as an outstanding occupation. My mom is a nurse and she always tells me the situations that she runs into and I find everything she does interesting. Nurses play an important role in the lives of the patients and I can comfort somebody when needed. My mom always told me growing up that I need to have a job where I don’t just sit behind desk and have no interactions. My mom said I have to interact with people and talk to others because that’s how I will make it far in life. I like to be surrounded by other people and work with other people. I like the idea of being able to speak to other people and get different perspectives for different situations. I need a dynamic environment. Nursing calls for a dynamic environment. I need to be moving around and conversing with other people.
To Begin to understand Social Network theory more deeply, it is important to understand some of the key concepts of the theory.
