The sculptor work artist Edgar Degas and Mary Edmonia Lewis were the most talented guys of 19th century. They were born around 1800s, 150 years ago and both of them died in the turn of 1900s Edgar Degas was a France man known for his fine art of drawing and sculptures. Mary Edmonia Lewis was a female who became the first black American woman to gain the fame in the work of sculptures and paintings .her work was known to incorporating themed relating to Negroes and the original Americans.
Both artists were well equipped with the resources necessary to run the work. They did not do carving and shaping alone but they also did painting, drawing and shaping so that their work …show more content…

Both of them were different genders, male and a female but this did not affect their legacy either. Mary was so concern of the sculptures while Edgar was better in drawings. Both of the artist were from different backgrounds Edgar degas being a European from the country of France and Mary Edmonia Lewis possessing dual continent African, then American. The distant between them was so large and there was seas and oceans between them. Even though the Mary and Edgar had students whom they taught, it was reported that Edgar did not taught official compared to Mary. Like in the two works of art below, Mary’s work was more of a tradition while Edgar’s work was more of a modern. Mary used the crown to depict the nature and the position of the woman in society while Edgar had a simple girl. Mary used the round base to place her sculpture on while Edgar had a square base for his sculpture. The former sculptures shows the man wearing the Native American clothes and the figure is clearly of a male. The later shows partly tinted image of a girl putting on a cotton skirt and satin hair ribbon, placed on a wooden square
