Although trafficking isn’t defined by poverty or economic status, its more common in poorer countries. Women and children are sold by family members or sell their bodies to provide for their families. Providing for their family is the main cause for international trafficking. Some are promised better jobs and are sent to bigger cities to work but end up being trafficked. Because of the corruption in other countries, women and children are treated differently when “rescued”.
