Smart phones, being known as today’s most used gadget can gain all good feedbacks from the buyers; however, although the production of smartphones improves the easy access to information, communication and socialization, it still has negative effects on education. The researchers conducted a survey in order to gain first hand data and used the random sampling method. Most respondents answered that social networking sites help them to raise their social statuses. When in class students commonly kill their boredom by checking their smartphones. Their frequent use of smartphones exhaust their body particularly their eyes and they make their smartphones as their priorities. One of the most influential icons in the history of men, Albert Einstein, once stated, “I fear that technology will surpass our human interaction. The world will have a generation of idiots.” What Einstein meant was, further improvements of technology the world gets could not always mean as an advantage in all aspects. The results shows that majority of the respondents uses their smartphones during class hours. The most common reason answered by the respondents is that to kill boredom during classes. This idea shows that students who are not interested in particular subject intends to get his/her smartphone and play with it.
The results of the study showed that smart phones have negative effects on most industrial engineering students’ education. Based on the survey, most students’ boundless use of smart phones can lead to having their assignments undone on time and may cause them to lack sleep at night. Moreover, daily use of smart phones is a great steal of time in their school works. It even makes them review their lesson less often that leads a few respondents to fail in their examinations. Results of the research even show that students use their smart phones
Owning a smart phone in today’s society has become the norm. In fact, landlines are on the verge of becoming obsolete since smartphone sales have been on the rise throughout this past decade. The PEW Research Center (2018) has found that approximately 95 percent of Americans own a smartphone (Mobile Fact Sheet, para.2). Owning one of these technological gadgets may seem convenient, but spending too much time on them can actually be damaging. There are many dangers to spending too much time staring into these screens. Over usage of our time on these devices interferes with the development of social and communication skills. Smartphones are especially harmful for the younger generation. There are numerous negative effects of smartphones and the use of them should be
According to Jack Tessier, in his article “Student Impressions of Academic Cell Phone Use in the Classroom”, said that, “Students felt that cell phone use helped their learning, was not a distraction, helped them enjoy the class, improved their attendance a little, and promoted their success” (Figure 1b). This means with the cell phone, people can see the difference in education between the past and the present day. For example, if ten years ago students had to bring books when they went to school, they are now able to read books directly on their phones because many famous technology companies such as Apple and Samsung have designed electronic books, better known as e-books. This is a great invention, since many books are able to be converted into an e-books. It is more convenient because I can read books easily through the cell
Clearly, smartphones can make a lot of things easier in some way; however, "they are the source of gross distraction and rude behavior". This claim is stated directly from the article. Dan Kadlec uses many figures and sources such as ACI Worldwide and Aite Group, Lookout study to demonstrate a large number of people using mobile phones at the moment. Moreover, these data also present smart-phones owner concern and the rude impact that smartphones influence human. Clearly, 94% smartphone owners worry about losing their phones, but only 6% worry about "security issues related to their smart phone 's access to financial accounts". In addition, the frequency of checking and using the phones is fairly high, and people almost use their phones in every case, such as while in bed, on the toilet, during a meal and even during religious service. I think I can use the information in this article to write about the influence and negative effects of using smartphones in our lives.
When the class get bored, I usually just take out my phone to play around with it. It is the habit that I should not do in class. Not having my phone in class that day made me realize that I can focus more in class without my electronic devices. There is the time that I feel I am not the only one who addict of electronic devices. When I was in discussion with my friends, they kept checking their phone and did not completely focus on our conservation. It made me think about how electronic devices affect the communication between me and my friends. I can understand the lack of communication clearly on the day of the experiment since I did not have my electronic device. When I look back to the experiment, the reason that my experiment failed is not that I cannot stay unplug for twenty-four hours but I need my laptop for my school work. I realized that there are things that I have to depend on my electronic devices without other solutions. Times had changed and everybody changes. Electronic devices become important part of our lives. This also applies to myself. My notes and homework are all online and I need to access to those work through Internet by using my laptop. No matter how hard I try to unplug myself, I still need to use my electronic devices for my
According to Porter (2013), “Technology has become a catalyst for distraction and off task behavior with students, tweeting, or prowling, through YouTube when they’re supposed to be listening to the teacher or doing classwork, promotes a lack of focus”. Cell Phones in the classroom would perform as a distraction to students learning. A small amount of students would actually be paying attention to their teacher and what he/she is instructing them and the other half of the students would not be paying attention. They would be surfing the web, playing games or be on social media, in which the classroom is not a room for participating in such activities Sooner than later cell phones being in the classroom would only cause a distraction and students grades would significantly display it.
The smartphone is not only a phone but a computer itself which allows us to access social media sites and the internet whenever it is convenient for us. In 2011 the smartphone companies sold over one million of these devices, which means that four out of every ten people have a smartphone. Us as human beings are social animals and we crave the need and sense of communication and the technology based smartphone just intensifies that craving. (Bousaid) But, what are we really doing to ourselves when we are constantly worried about our smartphones? We have went from a world of in person communication to always wanting to communicate through our smartphones, but this is destroying our ability to communicate with other human beings in a face-to-face conversation. But, our communication styles are not the only thing that is suffering from the newest technology. In an education based field, children are becoming more distracted and distant causing a decrease in the learning that is being done (Bousaid). NBC News reports, “people who are interrupted by technology score 20 percent lower on a standard cognition test. A second demonstrated that some students, even when on their best behavior, can 't concentrate on homework for more than two minutes without distracting themselves by using social media or writing an email”(Sullivan). In the career field the smartphone 1 also hurts the productivity that is being done, research has been conducted that shows that only eleven minutes of work can be done before the employee becomes distracted by their smartphone, which means that these employees are constantly distracted by their smartphones. The decline in our education, communication and career choices can all be linked to smartphones and the constant evolution of our
Technology and its many forms are used all over the world, almost every minute of the day, to perform tasks in a normal everyday routine. We pay bills online, buy clothing and other items, receive daily news, and keep in constant communication with all of our loved ones and friends. “ One in four teens are cell-mostly internet users, who say they mostly go online using their phone and not using some other device such as a desktop or laptop computer “. According to a nationally representative survey performed on eight hundred and two teens between the ages of twelve and seventeen, seventy-eight percent of teens have a cell phone and of that seventy-eight percent, almost half have smartphones. “ More than five-hundred million people communicate and keep in
“Sounds like an opportunity for smartness-but only if we choose to take it.” (Weinberger 23) This quote is capable of summarizing all benefits and disadvantages of smart phones. It has already been proven above how drastically smart phones can help society. However, this can only happen if we choose to use it correctly. The truth is that without smart phones, the world would be far worse off than it is now. If we didn’t have an improved method of communication, be it E-mail, calling, etc., then international diplomacy would be even worse than it is now and we would likely be in the middle of world war

Despite the short amount of time since the introduction of the smartphone, the rapid development of the software and technology has had a tremendous effect on the everyday life in society today. The concept of communicating through a telephone was developed in the 1870s. Devices to transmit speech electrically were designed by Elisha Gray and Alexander Graham Bell, but Bell's design was patented first. On March 10, 1876, Alexander Graham Bell achieved one of his greatest successes in the making of the telephone. This brought upon a major change in communication and gave leeway to the improvement of the telephone in the days to come (Bellis, 2013b). During the 20th century there were many innovations regarding the telephone. In 1973, the first call from a portable phone was made Martin Cooper, who was a Motorola researcher and executive at the time. Since its inception, the advancement of cell phones has been exponential (Bellis, 2013a). As a result, cell phones have changed how society works in today's world. Many people lack the insight of how cell phones, or in this case, smart phones, affect the people that use them. So the question is, how is the evolution of smart phones impacting our society?
...r phones update our minds suffer another loss. People are slowly losing their independence to think for themselves and the ability to rely on their own intelligence instead of a computer`s. When this happens, it can endanger the proper development of the personality and hamper the social relationships needed for life together in society. The more we succumb towards technology, the less personality we are capable of retaining. It`s come to the point that the smaller our devices get, the smaller our brains get as well. Technology has vastly improved over just a short amount of time, and societies` dependence on it is strengthened more and more with every day that passes. Yes, it makes life "easier", but the easy way out isn`t always the best way. People don`t just depend on their technology for help anymore. It has come to the point where they depend on it to survive.
