Research Paper When the United Sates federal government set new regulations on what schools had to provide for lunch for their students, a lot of people weren’t pleased with what was happening. Especially when students started complaining of hunger after having had their school provided lunch. With the new regulations, the price of lunches went up. The new rules made eating lunch from school more expensive and it made it clear that most students, especially elementary, won’t or refuse to eat the healthier foods. Obviously, the school systems were going to need to find a way to ease their students into eating the healthier foods that they now needed to offer.

In other words, reasons for the obesities is because of vending machines and junk food on campuses. Having junk food is a win-win situation because we, the students get to eat the junk food, and the school is getting money to fund the school.
There are supposed to be lunch standards at the school which provide a cup serving of fresh fruits. “This Lunch Act can have a negative mental and physical effect on the children” (Schuna). If the children do not eat right at school or at home, then it can cause obesity or other health issues way down the line. Obese children are at greater risks of severe chronic health conditions such as diabetes and heart disease. Children need to start seeing the importance of eating healthy foods whether they are at home, school, or even going on vacation.
In summary, parents and schools have the biggest impact on a child’s nutritional choices in many different ways. Parents must be a model for their children and show them how to make good choices in regards to food. Elementary and middle school is where children continue to grow and learn about nutrition. High schoolers display set-in-stone eating habits. However, there is always room to learn and improve.
Many cafeteria workers and staff members in 49 states have said many students do not want the governments new school lunches. Almost 7 out of 17 schools with have been seen with students throwing away some or all their fruits or vegetables, even the cafeteria workers are suffering under these new standards. Schools should know by now what is good for students and what is not, but they should not go overboard with the wheat and whole grain items.
