What Activity Did You Attend and Why Did You Select this Event? I attended a field action event with a representative from Compassion & Choices of California (CCC). The field action event consisted of Vincent, a trained volunteer professional, who has been with CCC for many years, and I. This was my first time to partake in any field action event. The field action event took place at the Pasadena Farmer’s Market, Saturday, August 1, 2015 from 9:00AM to 11:00AM. The main objective was to present information, face to face, about SB 128. While talking to others about SB 128, I noticed, “an in-person advocacy effort shows the most commitment, because it is the most trouble for the advocate to do” (Hoefer, 2012, p. 138). It took a lot of courage and confidence for me to stand among a group of people and say, “Please help me make SB 128, End of Life Option Act, become a law in the state of California so that we can end the suffering of terminal ill individuals.” I was scared for the first 20 minutes, but after a while I adjusted to my surroundings. In fact, this agency is truly dedicated to helping individuals die with dignity. Also, CCC is a nonprofit organization that advocates for individuals to have the most serene death conceivable. If SB 128 is passed into law, it will allow “terminal ill individual adults in California in the final stages of his/her disease to request medication from a physician to bring about a peaceful death” (Senate Bill 128, 2015). Advocating at Pasadena Farmer’s Market helped me realize that I’m taking a stance and speaking for others who can’t be heard. Not only am I being a voice for SB 128, but every individual who signed the letters were also a voice in helping me give terminally ill individuals an option as to how they want to choose to end their own
