Welfare Blocks Single Parents Who Want An Education
The welfare system and the financial aid system conflict. This conflict causes many single parents to have problems going to school. We want to be able to go to school but the new welfare reforms don't give us enough time. We need more time to finish an education.
The only way the state will help at all is if we finish our education within two years. The two years may sound adequate enough to get an education. But during those two years, we are still required to work 20 hours a week. Then, in order to finish a two-year degree or certificate within the two-year allotment, we would have to take 12 credits or sometimes up to 18 credits each semester. Taking just 12 credits would work out to be around three hours a day, Monday through Friday.
Some classes will require a lab. A lab is were we meet as a class one day a week outside of normal class requirements. During the lab time we usually work more hands on, or focus on main topics in the course. This usually requires an additional couple of hours one day a week. A lot of the college classes for a two-year certificate require a lab. By looking through the listings you'll see that with a 12 credit agenda for a semester we will most likely have an average of two labs. Two labs would add another four hours on to our week. Now we have about five hours a day, five days a week. Along with working our required 20 hours we have to find a job that is willing to work around our schedules. Then we have to schedule time for homework. With 12 credits we would need an average of two to three hours a night just to keep up with our regular work, that doesn't include studying for tests. So during the week we would have to go to school for around three hours, then would work for five hours, go home and do homework for three hours. That's already 11 hours a day. As a single mother myself I would like to spend at least a few hours a day with my son.
Over the course of the poem, Beowulf transitions from a heroic warrior to a noble king. The last lines of the epic, "kindest to kinfolk yet keenest for fame" undoubtedly refers to the transitions of roles the main character undergoes, as well as the differing values and responsibilities accompanying each role. Time and again in the poem the major themes of what makes a good king and what makes a good hero are presented. As both a warrior and a king, Beowulf must reconcile the opposing values and duties of each position in society. This essay seeks to show that the final line of the epic relates to the whole poem in terms of the tension between the roles of hero and king.
For the most part, Beowulf’s characteristics describe those of a triumphant warrior who played a major role in defending the lives of his fellow citizens, while leading a thriving country. Although Beowulf soon became king, he died for his people, and was remembered as a victorious fighter. Beowulf is at least in part a study of kingship because it discusses the qualities that produce a good king, the disadvantages during his rule and how he overcame them, and the problems that arose upon his death.
Kierkegaard believes that true faith can only be attained through a double movement of giving up rationality or logic, while at the same time believing one can understand logically. In “Fear and Trembling” Kierkegaard relates true faith to the Knight of infinite resignation and the Knight of faith; in this paper, I will examine this claim and show why Kierkegaard’s analogy is an excellent metaphor for the double movement which is required in one’s quest to attain faith and why.

Many of the characters in Beowulf are, like in most epics, defined by their status. But, in addition to status, the Anglo-Saxon culture also adds an element of honor. To the Anglo-Saxons, a character’s importance, as well as their wealth and status, where measured not only in monetary terms, but it was also measured in terms of honor, fame, and accomplishments. Hrothgar, king of the Danes, is one example of the Anglo-Saxon measurement of importance in Beowulf. In Canto 1 the story teller describes his wealth and importance, not as mounds of gold or jewels, but instead as his ability to “[lead] the Danes to such glory.” and as his tendency to “In battle, [leave] the common pasture untouched, and taking no lives.” Through this display of compassion for the commoner who doesn’t fight in battles, Hrothgar proves the full extent of his honor and therefore the extent of his wealth and status. Beowulf, the hero-prince, also proves his true wealth and status through his deeds as defender of the Danes.. As he fights and defeats Grendel, Beowulf Earns Fame and wealth from his companions, and from the Danes, but more importantly, he earns honor raising him to the level of an archetypal hero. Grendel, on the other hand, is the total opposite of Beowulf. He has no wealth, no honor, and he in infamous as an evil killer. This lack of wealth and honor defines Grendel as a symbol of evil and corruption. In addition to using Honor and wealth to define a character’s character, the story-teller(s) have incorporated alternating Biblical and Paganistic motifs in the epic-poem.
The downfall of the US Public Education system is very concerning to me. A number of children are leaving the school system without the proper tools for them to be successful and productive. Over the years, schools have been victims of budget cuts; therefore, they are no longer able to supply children with sufficient and basic needs for success. There are several factors other than budget cuts that contribute to young adults leaving school without the proper tools for success.

Not all students could afford the cost of college. The minimum salary with a high school diploma is $19,680. As for college, the average tuition costs for colleges in Oregon state is $ 6,780 for in-state and $ 20,709 for out-of-state. All the money a worker makes is split to pay state taxes, federal taxes, personal income taxes, sales tax, other taxes, mortgage and personal needs. How much is left from the check? Not to mention, students come from low-income families. Everyone is aware of the cost for college is skyrocketing and sometimes students are told to stay home and help provide for the family instead. Parents discourage their children because they know that they can never be able to afford it. It’s a shame that parents discourage their children because of money issues when in other countries college is free. Some developing countries have free college, while the U.S is a developed country and charges for education. Everyone has potential, why should they be held back because of money?
Beowulf is a great warrior, portrayed by his strength, courage, and bravery. Beowulf also exemplifies the manner and values dictated by the Germanic heroic code. He is considered to be both a warrior and a king. When Beowulf encounters the dragon, the responsibilities of being king are thrown. He must act for the good of his people, not just for his own glory. Throughout the poem, Beowulf holds a good reputation and is respected by the people.
Initial Public Offerings (IPOs) are common ways for small companies to grow and expand by increasing their availability of capital. The Initial Public Offering started seeing a strong increase in popularity in the late 1990's. As a result of the growing popularity resulting in the dot com explosion, the term "IPO" became a household name. In order to understand how IPOs work, its best to first know how IPOs are created.
Education is extremely important to me. I have been fortunate enough to have positive experiences in school and the means to pursue higher education. However, some people didn’t have this option, felt it was unavailable to them, or just chose not to pursue it at the time. However, more and more people are deciding to go back to school. In fact, NBC states that in 2009, 40% of all graduates were 25 years old and over - 17% of those being 35 years old and over. Going back to school isn’t easy. The cost is an obvious concern, but so are the hours that may cut into the time one spends at work or with his or her kids.
In other words, they could go to college for better education. The cost of higher education is substantially growing in the recent years, which include both state universities and private universities. Due to a rapid increase in tuition fees, some young students drop out of college because they are not able to find a job to pay off their loans after graduation. However, it is difficult to accept those high tuition fees for low-income families. Most of low-income families have more than two children, which cause a financial burden for the families. In the article “Higher Education’s Coming Crisis” Robert Zaller states that “President Obama has fired a shot across the bows of higher education in warning that if college costs continue to go up, government subvention will go down.” which means if college do not cut tuition fees, more students cannot go to college. Even if some students who graduate from high school would prefer to make money early rather than achieve a college degree. The loan to students could effectively be solved the tuition fee issue, which could contribute to completing their college education first and then paying the cost after
Water is the most important substance in our evolution and our daily lives. Without water,
Beowulf is a complex character that is cast as the ultimate hero and champion, whose greatest strength is also his greatest weakness. Though his obsession with power yield him courage and strength that allow him to defeat enemies most other warriors cannot bring themselves to fight, his unilateral quest for glory leaves his citizens and kingdom desolate and unprepared for the difficulties they face. Beowulf may be the greatest warrior of one of the greatest epics written, but as is said in the last words about him in the book, his most notable trait is not his greatness as a leader and king but that he is the “keenest to win fame”.
Today, it is not easy for one to obtain a high-paying job without a college education. In addition to the importance of the actual degree and earning money, college is a critical period of time in life for developing critical thinking, time management and communication skills that set the stage for building a solid career. Further, relationships made in college often will open the doors to new opportunities and further advancement. Unfortunately, college is very expensive and the challenge of paying for it can seem insurmountable to teens from financially-challenged homes. However, college can be the mechanism to break the cycle of low income in a family.
