What's not amazing about getting money for doing absolutely nothing? Well there are many aspects wrong with this. One is the harm to the hard working people who earned the money given to them. Two is they do nothing to help production, or our economy. I know we can't mistreat them but it's not fair to the people who actually earned there money. The two negative aspects of welfare that this paper will explain, are the stealing of workers money, and the next to no help in our falling economy, it will also explain the history of welfare. The first negative aspects of welfare is they are "stealing money." The the main point of this topic is they get money from the hardworking citizens and they did not earn that money. Did you know almost 48 million people are receiving food stamps, a type of welfare, from the government? The way they are "stealing money" from us is taking the hard workers money. These people that provide money for the welfare system are hard workers. They go to their job almost everyday and work hard. They pay taxes to their government so the government can spend it to better the country. According to Dennis Hartman from ehow.com the people on welfare won't be motivated to find a job, and they will stay on welfare. This means they will continue to mooch money off of the hard workers and the government. This means there are many things wrong with them taking hard workers money. Another good point that Dennis Hartman brought up is that there is something else we could to to help these people. He says that there is a somewhat simple solution to stealing money from the hard workers. This solution is setting up a different type of program to help them. This program would not provide finically support t... ... middle of paper ... ...ram of providing work and stimulating the economy through non-private monetary spending on projects, instead of relying upon cash payment. One way the Islamic people help is through Zakat, one of the Five pillars of Islam. This has been collected by the government since the time of the 7th century. These taxes were then used to help give the needy, including the poor, elderly, orphans, widows, and the disabled, a monetary assistance. To sum it all up, the welfare system in the U.S. Is robbing the workers of their hard earned money, providing no help to the U.S. Economy, and lastly welfare had a good history but has slowly gone into the dumps. The U.S. Government spends almost $132 billion on welfare a year. Think of how else that could be used to help America. Another "fun" fact is that in 8 states people on welfare are paid more than a public school teacher.
It seems like the Welfare system treats its recipients with disrespect and shame to discourage them from joining the system. The people who made and run Welfare in the 1990s made Welfare into a blame game and forces recipients to solely blame themselves for their poverty. The moral prescriptions in individually getting rid of poverty according to TANF are the Work Plan/Family Plan. The focuses on work and family are contradictory because of how little time there is to get both goals done and each goal perpetuates the idea that it is the most important part of ending poverty. It seems like Welfare is more about getting people off of Welfare than eradicating poverty. There is a difference in the goals and that is reflected in how the recipients are treated and how Welfare is run.
Welfare can be defined as “systems by which government agencies provide economic assistance, goods, and services to persons who are unable to care for themselves” (Issitt). The United States welfare system is an extremely complex and unique entity that encompasses ideas and concepts from an abundance of different places. Many people believe the current system is an excellent resource for the population, while others believe the current welfare system requires reform and budget cuts to become effective.
...al treatment, exceptions, to normally strict regulations, could be made in extreme circumstances for needy people. Having one rule, with no exceptions, can only add argument and debate. Welfare is definitely a good program if truly needed, but if misused, can only punish the ones that need it. I guarantee, though, that if you look around, you will find some form of abuse of the government, whether it be through welfare, workman's compensation, or many other types of government aide.
In today’s America, there are many people who would either be disgusted at the very mention of Welfare or be highly grateful for its existence. I believe that in order for welfare to be more effective in America, there must be reform. From the time of its inceptions in 1935, welfare has lent a helping hand to many in crisis (Constitution Rights Foundation). However, at present many programs within the system are being abused and the people who are in real need are being cheated out of assistance. The year after the creation of welfare unemployment was just about twenty percent (Unemployment Statistics). The need for basic resources to survive was unparallel. Today, many people face the same needs as many did during the 30s. Some issues with
The unsustainable growth of welfare is becoming a big issue in the United States. The government is spending money it does not have to support people it cannot afford. Welfare only adds more debt to our country. Welfare could be a wonderful aid if people used it with justice, but welfare only creates lazy dependent people. Welfare should only be a resource someone can turn to when you are out of all your options, and are in desperate need of help. In this day and age it has turned into a way of life for some people. Too many Americans would rather turn to government assistance than to get back on their feet themselves. Welfare is being taken advantage of.
Welfare programs are an important part of American society. Without any type of American welfare, people will starve, children will not receive the proper education, and people will not receive any medical help simply because they do not have the resources available to them. Each of the three aspects of the American welfare system are unique in their own ways because they are funded differently and the benefits are given to different people. While support for these welfare systems has declined in the more recent years, the support for it when it was created was strong.
The welfare system arose in the United States during the Great Depression, by the Social Security Act in the 1930s, providing medical and monetary aid to minorities such as women and their children, the elderly and later, entire families. During the Great Depression the Welfare system helped many families survive. Like many of the relief programs that were put into effect Welfare became a reform program, and remained permanent. Extensions to the original programs that had been created during the Great Depression were created in the New Deal, and Great society. Over this time, Welfare reform became stricter with its policy and was only attainable for a short term. Welfare which was once meant to provide relief to families, has been abused greatly, and has become a serious issue in the United States. The Welfare program is a negative aspect of the government’s social programs, because of the increasing fraudulency and abuse that occurs, in order to meet the welfare eligibility requirements. Welfare system is financed along with the total finances.
Welfare can be defined as health, happiness, and good fortune; well-being; Prosperity; and Financial or other aid provided, especially by the government, to people in need (Merriam-Webster, 2014). It can be very beneficial to people in need of it. Tim Prenzler stated that, “Welfare systems are often seen as providing a ‘safety net’ that prevents citizens falling below a minimum standard of living (2012, p2). Everyone is able to use is if they are in need of it. People have successfully used welfare to get out of their slum, and started to support themselves. Others have decided to not try to get out of that slum, and live off that welfare. They decided that they didn’t have to try, and let the government support them. Welfare is a good tool for people to get back on their feet, but shouldn’t be that persons steady income.
I have learned that welfare should imply more restrictions. If the American tax payers and the government have to invest huge amounts of money to the program, there money should be well spent. With today’s poor economy people can’t spend money like there is an endless supply. Welfare is a great program but it does have its imperfections.
Welfare is a great incentive program to help the ones in need, to maintain basic human needs. Over time people have started to misuse the system. The program is created for the ones who worked really hard or can't work because of any physical or mental challenge. Many Americans on Welfare today, don't want to work, and collect free money from the government. The homeless that are on the streets deserve it more than anyone. Our country is aware, but we are not taking action, we need to step up and end this immorality. Welfare should be reformed, because many people are abusing it, its putting our government in debt, and giving away tax money from paychecks of the ones who work. However, Welfare is great for the ones who work hard, and still have a hard time supporting their families.
There are 108,592,000 people in the United States on welfare (Snyder). Welfare is not social security, unemployment insurance, veterans’ benefits, or workers compensation (Snyder). People who receive welfare have low motivation and think it is an entitlement. People use excuses to not find an actual job and slowly start to rely on welfare for their overall income (Snyder).
The welfare system in the United States has had many problems arise in recent years and there has been nothing done to try and fix these issues. Welfare is supposed to be a financial boost for people who are struggling to survive by themselves. However, there are many people trying to take advantage of the system and use the money provided by the government for certain items that are not necessary to live. The other major problem is with the inefficient government that is so divided ideologically that nothing has been done to repair the system because both parties believe that their ideas are more effective than the others. In order to resolve the ongoing dispute of the welfare system, changes to the process of screening recipients and how the government conducts changes to the system have to be made.
When you hear the words “welfare” what comes to mind? To me, the word welfare has always had a very negative connotation. However, after looking further into the concept behind it all, welfare isn’t always such a bad thing. In general, welfare provides financial stability for those who are otherwise unable to do so. Welfare can be very beneficial to a multitude of people with many different ways to make life easier. Welfare in the United States refers to a federal welfare program that has been put into place to benefit unemployed people or just your average lower class person. The most common forms of welfare are Medicaid and food stamps. Believe it or not, a welfare program is not a new idea. Welfare has started long before we were born. In the early days of welfare, the British put into place something called “poor laws”. These laws distinguished who was able to work and provide for themselves and who wasn’t due to physical condition or even how old they were. This was very similar to what President Franklin D. Roosevelt did during the times known as the great depression. The Social Security Act was amended in 1939, which gave lower income people more money throughout the depression. Unemployment Compensation and Aid to Dependent Children are two welfare programs that are still out there today. Welfare programs can benefit you in areas such as health, housing, tax relief and just more money in your pocket. Welfare is not only an American idea. In the Islāmic culture the word zakat means charity. Zakat is actually one of the five pillars of faith. This money has been collected by the government since the 7th century. The taxes, however, still have the same benefit to us. The taxes were collected and used to provide income to ...
Welfare in America is a social issue spiraling out of control. This issue is a national epidemic, with no solution seen in the near future. Unfortunately abuse of the system has become a norm in our society. Governmental officials acknowledge the issue, but lack the effort to make major ramifications. Taxpaying citizens now reap the heavy burden of incompetent political officials and major abuse of the system.
Welfare is purely used just to help people get back on their feet until they can find a stable job that will help them provide for themselves and their family. People never use it to just feed off of government money so they do not have to work or try to find a jobs. This is never a cop out for not getting a college education. Because of welfare, America has no need to look for other ways to help the unemployed. It is completely unreasonable to think of programs that include job training for people who did not go to college or maybe never graduated from college but still have families that they need to provide for. That could maybe be a great solution; or it could go terribly wrong because nothing could ever replace how perfectly welfare works. Welfare is also pretty much ethically perfect, right? We give money to the people who can not get it for themselves. But, what if we taught them how to make money for themselves so they could be self-sufficient? No that’s a terrible idea, job training would never
