Welding Materials and Their Applications
There is many different types of welding, whether it’s welding steel or any different type of material. Depending on the type of material depends on the process of welding and the welding materials that you use. Welding is a form of fabrication that joins the metal together by using heat and electricity to bond the two. The most popular types of welding are shielded metal arc welding (SMAW), gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW), gas metal arc welding (GMAW), flux-cored arch welding (FCAW), submerged arc welding (SAW).
Shielded metal arc welding is also referred to as (SMAW), in abbreviation. This type of welding is uses an “electrode” that sort of looks like a stick, that’s why they often call it stick welding. An electrode is a stick covered in a protective flux. This coating on the outside of the stick acts as a protective …show more content…

Mig welding only requires three things, electricity to make the heat, an electrode to fill up the joint, and gas to protect the weld from the outside air in the environment. This process of welding is the easiest to learn and do by far. Once you understand how to weld with mig, it is very simple to understand and take care of the machine that you are welding with. You can control three things on a mig welder, voltage of the welding gun, speed of the wire coming out, and the amount of gas going through the line when the trigger is pulled. Typical mig electrodes vary in sizes, you can either go as small as a .023 all the way up to a .045. It is simple the type of wire you use, and the thickness of it is determined by the material that you are planning to weld. This process of welding is very fast, easy, and very quick to do. This is why most of the time when a factory is production welding they use the mig process because you can weld out material so
