Water is the most important liquid known to human kind. It is found everywhere; on the ground or even in the air we breathe, and it is used as an essential part of everyday life. Hundreds of years ago, people use to utilize water for irrigation and the operation of various mechanical devices such as watermills. As a result, it lead people from one idea to another until they have decided to try using water to generate electricity. This new discovery lead to a success. To promote this new idea, people started building dams across the country to help them store water in order for the generation to take place. Of course, with the help of the water cycle, the discoverers of the water electricity generators lead into finding one of nature’s engines to create a useful form of energy. As known by many people in these new generations, electricity can be reproduced using many methods with the help of natural resources, wind, solar system, and fossil fuels. One which in fact is used by numerous countries is the hydro power.
Hydro-power or water power is power derived from energy of falling water and running water which could be harnessed for useful purposes. There are three main methods for generating hydroelectricity. Firstly, storage, where a dam collects water in a reservoir then it is release it to drive turbines, producing electricity. Secondly, pumped storage, where water is pumped to a higher reservoir releasing it to a lower reservoir. Thirdly, run of river, known as the most popular method, where the natural flow of a river or stream is used to drive a turbine.

Therefore, some species of fish cannot increase their population because of them. Although hydroelectric dams have considerably fewer emissions than thermal power plants, the blocked water in the dam does cause the release of methane into the atmosphere.
The use of water is infinite. One new idea lead to other ideas until some engineers came up with using water to generate electricity. Even though it was discovered and used thousands of years ago for simpler things, the idea was enlarged by some people and used in a way that could help both, people and the environment. Now, dams are built everywhere because it is known as one of the best ideas to generate electricity.
The primary goal of the dam, irrigation, was forgotten as the war time need for electricity increased. Aluminum smelting was vital to the war effort. Aluminum smelting requires substantial amounts of electricity and hydroelectric power plants are often built to provide electricity for these smelts. The electricity was also used to produce uranium for the Manhattan Project. After the war ended the original goal of irrigation resumed. Additional dams, siphons and canals were constructed that turned the coulee into a vast supply network that allowed the desert to bloom.
Water greatly affected technological, economic, political, and legal developments. Technology has to advance in order to get more water while the economy, politics, and laws began to change due to the need for more water, and to this day it has had a lasting effect. Water will always play a major role in our past, present, and future.
The use of turbines from dams to provide power was a brilliant idea until water levels started running lower than normal. The water waste from humanity is directly contributing to portions of it, aside from drought conditions affected by pollution, widespread fires battled, and more adds to the depletion thereof. When humanity is relying on power provided from dams to handle the demand, they are essentially relying on the assumption that water levels will always be there to provide it. The Hoover Dam provides power to the southwestern portion of the USA that has a large number of people.
Yet, there is no such thing as “clean hydro power,” with the exception of very small-scale hydropower dams at the individual or neighborhood level. Hydro powered dams can cause major fluctuations in downstream flows, and even dewater the stream channel, leading to direct death of fish and other species. The main effects of a dam on a river is that it disrupts flows, lowers water quality, blocks the movement of rivers vital nutrients and sediment, destroys fish and wildlife habitat, and eliminates recreational opportunities. Reservoirs slow and broaden rivers, making them warmer, reducing water quality, and harboring destructive nonnative species that scatter throughout the watershed and prey on and compete with native wildlife.
