John R. Cash was an American singer-songwriter, guitarist, actor, and author. He is widely considered one of the most influential popular musicians of the 20th century and is one of the best-selling music artists of all time, having sold more than 90 million records worldwide. Although primarily remembered as a country music icon, his genre-spanning songs and sound embraced rock and roll, rockabilly, blues, folk, and gospel. This crossover appeal won Cash the rare honor of multiple inductions in the Country Music, Rock and Roll, and Gospel Music Halls of Fame. “Walk the Line” is a biographical film about the life and times of country’s bad boy, Johnny Cash. Every day Cash would walk by this recording studio and listen to all the wonderful music that was played. So one day Cash meet with Sam Phillips, founder of Sun Records( the label that founded Elvis Presley, Jerry Lee Lewis, Roy Orbison, and Carl Perkins just to name a few). Cash auditioned with Sam and his band member called the Tennessee Two. Sam loved what Cash recorded and immediately signed Cash and his band members. Sam put Cash on musical tour with all the boys founded by Sun records that I mentioned above including June Carter. Cash’s impending love interest. His music elevated him to stardom he could have never dreamed of, but drug and alcohol abuse threaten to drag him down. It also got in the way for possible romance with June, the love of his life, even after Vivian leaves him. Cash stumbled upon the chords by accidentally playing a song backwards on his cassette recorder. Dorothy Horstman, in an Interview with Cash, found that he wrote the song backstage before a performance, as his pledge of devotion to his first wife, Vivian Liberto. It has been the center of much debate that Cash wrote the song for June Carter, however the was written in 1956 and the marriage between Johnny and June took place in 1958.
