Proper health development of infants determines the overall well-being of the child throughout the growth process. Children should avoid Diseases and disorders, which hinder their development. WIC programs, vaccinations and early intervention measures help in mitigating these risks.
Vaccination is very important for children below the age of five. They save lives. False information on vaccines has impacted Children in many regions around the world have been adversely (Peet, n.d.). Peet (n.d.) gives examples of Polio infection in Africa and measles infection in America to drive her point. Vaccination protects children from deadly diseases, which kill thousands of children every year. Today, these diseases kill fewer children though outbreaks still occur due to lack of vaccination among some children. Before attaining the age of two, children should receive vaccinations against diseases like Diphtheria, Polio, Measles, Mumps, and Chickenpox (“10 reasons to vaccinate before they are two”, n.d.). Information related to understanding vaccination will help child development professionals be able to suggest to parents the vaccination to give the child. They will also be able to give the parents the timelines for these vaccinations. As child development professionals, they will be in a good position to explain to the parents the negative effects of failing to ensure that their child receives vaccination.
The term WIC is an abbreviation for Women, Infants, and Children. WIC programs are programs that focus on empowering women with the best ways of taking care of children to prevent diseases.
